Twitter Erupts as Atletico Madrid beat Marseille to win the Europa League

Atletico Madrid beat Olympique Marseille 2-0 in the final of the UEFA Europa League in Lyon. Antoine Griezmann gave Atletico the lead in the 21st minute after capitalizing on a defensive error.

Marseille suffered a huge blow after half hour of play when Dimitri Payet had to be substituted following an injury. Four minutes into the second half and Griezmann once again found the net as Atleti doubled their lead.

Captain Gabi scored the final goal to score a 3-0 for the Rojiblancos and Fernando Torres was also introduced late on, potentially appearing in the final European game of his career.

Atletico Madrid grabbed their second Europa League trophy under Diego Simeone, whereas, the search and the drought for a European trophy goes on for French teams.
