Twitter reacts to Mesut Ozil's absence from Arsenal match

Time is running out for Ozil to prove himself

Having pictured himself back in training and with Arsenal confirming that Mesut Ozil is now fully fit, the German failed to make the team that has travelled to face West Ham. Ozil last appeared for the Gunners in the draw with Brighton and Hove Albion last year and he has been nowhere seen since then. Fans would have expected to see him at least make the substitutes' bench just like Hector Bellerin and Nacho Monreal who also make their returns following their injuries for the match against West Ham.

Many have started to lose confidence in the top earner of the club who renewed his contract last year before Arsene Wenger bid goodbye to the club. The midfielder is expected to stay until 2021, but with the current situation, there are speculations that he could leave earlier than his contract. Wenger had been fond of starting his creative midfielder even though he offered little in terms of defence. However, Unai Emery is not afraid of dropping key and senior players in the squad such as Aaron Ramsey, Alexandre Lacazette and Petr Cech, if things do not work the way he wants them to. There are rumours that this has caused a rift in relationships between Ozil and the club's manager, but Emery has denied them.

As long as Ozil does not return to the starting eleven, there will continue to be more speculation about his future and Emery's trust in him. Time will tell whether his absence is truly due to injury, a tactical decision or because of other reasons which fans have been speculating on. Arsenal fans are surely disappointed to see that the 30-year-old continues to miss out on games in the Premier League. Here was how they reacted on Twitter.
