Atletico Madrid v Chelsea FC - UEFA Champions League
Chelsea were the deserved winners on the night

Chelsea

Atletico Madrid v Chelsea FC - UEFA Champions League
A night to remember for the Blues!

Thibaut Courtois: 6/10

The Belgian had very little to do till the penalty was scored. He was commanding in the air, made some decent saves and his contribution was also on point. The only negative in his game was a shot which he parried straight to Saul who luckily for Courtois and Chelsea, missed it.

Cesar Azpilicueta: 6.5/10

The Spaniard's composure at the back is what makes him one of the best in the world and he again showed that against Atletico in a brilliant performance. He also could have had another assist as he found Morata with a stunning cross in the second half which was not met well by the striker.

David Luiz: 6/10

What was Luiz thinking when he pulled Lucas Hernandez's shirt so blatantly? Back in the fray after his sending off against Arsenal, the Brazilian again displayed the not so appreciated wild side of his. Other than that, Luiz was brilliant in his clearances and also produced a brilliant pass to Alvaro Morata which the striker headed and earned a corner from it.

Gary Cahill: 7/10

After a rest against Stoke City, Cahill was back to lead his side from the back. The Englishman did that with authority as it was a complete no-nonsense showing from the captain. Cahill also made good use of the ball when in possession.

Victor Moses: 7.5/10

The Nigerian was at his best last night! Moses was a constant menace in attack and also went close with a couple of long-range shots. He also tracked back in time and never looked out of position.

Marcos Alonso: 7/10

Alonso was more concerned with the defensive work when the game began but slowly improved as the game went on. He provided the assist for the last minute winner, a reward for his busy and industrious showing.

N'Golo Kante: 8/10

Atletico Madrid could not get near him for the majority of the game as his tenacious running had absolutely no stopping from the opposition. His work ethics set the tone for the entire game.

Tiemoue Bakayako: 7.5/10

Bakayako matched his midfield partner in work rate but his passing was again left to be criticized. But he was magnificent in shielding the defence and made 5 out of 5 successful tackles in the 90 minutes.

Cesc Fabregas: 5/10

Just as Saul, his Spanish teammate, Cesc Fabregas was also guilty of missing a sitter. His passing was also not at his regular best and his set-piece delivery was poor for the entirety of the game. But he showed great effort in running up and down and was seen almost everywhere just as N'Golo Kante.

Eden Hazard: 9/10

Atletico Madrid v Chelsea FC - UEFA Champions League
Back to his best

Surprisingly, Eden Hazard was given acres of space by the Atletico defenders which made matters easy for the Belgian. Starting in his first big match of the season, Hazard looked miles better than the other players on the pitch and deserved the man of the match award. Playing just behind Alvaro Morata, Hazard delivered a superb cross to the Spaniard to level the matters and should have had a goal of his own but his shot from 25 yards hit the upright.

Alvaro Morata: 8.5/10

Continuing where he left off against Stoke, Morata delivered an inspiring performance for the Blues and no surprises for guessing, again scored a goal. It was a well-timed run to meet Hazard's cross and nod home another headed goal. Morata had other numerous opportunities to score but failed by a whisker at times. He ran with the ball with intent, linked up well and was a constant threat to the Atletico defence. With Diego Costa in the stands, Morata gave the former Chelsea striker a live example of the smooth life after him for the Blues.

Substitutions

Michy Batshuayi: 6/10

He hardly got a touch in the game but was at the right place at the right time when he was the most needed. Batshuayi's winner against Atletico Madrid gave a throwback of his last-gasp goal against West Bromwich Albion last season which secured the title for Chelsea.

Willian: 6/10

The Brazilian was involved in the buildup to the Batshuayi goal.

Andreas Christensen: N/A

Replaced Fabregas with five minutes to go and hardly had any chance to make an impression.
