Manchester United's prospective formation for the new season

Can anyone predict what will be the preferred formation, starting line-up and team for the new season for Manchester United? United, having made only two new signings this season so far, has kept all the worldwide fans in anticipation as to who is coming next to Old Trafford before the summer transfer window closes. It is not yet confirmed what would be the starting lineup for August 20 when United takes on David Moyes’ team Everton in their first away match of the season. With a sense of excitement, uncertainty and lots of hopes of few more new signings, Sir Alex Ferguson is expected to field a much more attacking display this season, having lost the Premier League title last season on goal difference to their rivals, Manchester City.

Ferguson, who likes keeping his cards close to him, might surprise everyone with this game tactics and plans. Looking to have a promising future for the Red Devils, Sir Alex has been looking for many youngsters who would play roles similar to the likes Giggs, Scholes and others. So the Red Devils’ Boss, this year, will have many challenges as ever before.

Being on the second spot most of the season, then playing exceeding well and reaching the top, achieving one of your highest points total ever in the Premier League, having the title in your grasp and then all of a sudden, in a minute, the title getting snatched by your rival really hurts. This can’t be healed easily. You can only erase those sad memories by winning the title this season and silencing everyone. Not only the Premier League, but the Champions League, FA Cup and English League Cup will also be in Sir Alex’s sight.

On the other hand, Everton Boss David Moyes will be equally desperate to start off the season with a win. Leighton Baines, the Everton leftback has been targeted for Old Trafford for quite some time now, but nothing has happened with the deal yet. Brazilian Lucas Moura has been targeted by Fergie for a long time. After attempting to make a third bid for the teenage sensation, the team is in a dilemma as to whom to field in the first XI. Joao Moutinho, the Portuguese international has also been linked with a move to Old Trafford. Having Moutinho in the team will certainly add lots of depth to the midfield and Fergie can be happy to have signed a playmaker if Moutinho ends up with the Red Devils. He will just be perfect in providing assists to Rooney, Hernandez, Welbeck and also for the likes of Kagawa, Moura and Powell.

Many United fans have many complex opinions regarding new forwards, defenders and midfielders who can really bolster the team and bring almost all the trophies this season. David Villa can partner Rooney upfront and would be a devastating force for United, although chances of that happening are bleak as Barcelona won’t like to sell off the Spanish international so easily. With uncertainty over the future of Nani, Evra and Anderson, United are really having a tough time in landing new players who would do wonders for the club in the coming days.

Spanish giants Real Madrid have Nani in sight for a transfer fee of ?19.7million. Keeping all these in mind, Sir Alex is keeping a close watch on few other youngsters like Swansea’s Neil Taylor, Kenyan defensive midfielder, Victor Wanyama, and Benfica’s Axel Witsel, among many more.

With Vidic back from injury and having resumed training, and Tom Cleverley coming back to the squad after a long injury prone season, United will be relieved to an extent. Neil Taylor is having an impressive Olympics so far and could prove useful for the team, while Baines will provide the depth to the team. So with Ferdinand, Vidic, Evans, Rafael, Baines, Evra, Blacklett and Taylor, Manchester United will have a much more promising defense after a long time.

Sir Alex Ferguson can have different playing strategies this season and can field different formation depending on the matches. Let us have a look at some formations and the starting lineups which can bear fruit for the world’s most valuable sports club this season and in the future.
