Winger Antonio Valencia hopes to end his career at Manchester United. The 27-year-old joined United from Wigan Athletic in the summer of 2009 following Cristiano Ronaldo‘s departure and enjoyed a great first season at the club.

His second season was however marred with a long term injury he suffered from a horrific tackle while playing against Rangers in the Champions League group game. The Ecuadorian international has had an average season for the Red Devils thus far, thereby sparking rumors of his exit in the summer. However, Valencia quashed all rumors of him leaving the club and said:

“Neither the club or the coach have said anything about that (leaving Manchester United), I think it was a rumour that came about in Ecuador more than anywhere else.

“This [Manchester] is my home, I would like to stay here for a lot longer and retire here before going back to Ecuador.”

Remembering the career-threatening injury he suffered in 2010, Valencia admitted that he is yet to fully overcome the aftereffects. He added:

“When I had the problem with my leg I recovered mentally without any difficulty. But the problem with my back was something that affected me for a lot longer, but now I am fine and physically much better.”

The new United number 7 made 35 appearances for the newly crowned champions this season and expressed his delight at winning his second premier league trophy at the club. However, next on the agenda is to help Ecuador seal their place in the 2014 World Cup finals.

“I am very happy, this is my second championship here. I have the confidence that the coach has given me and when you go into a match with the confidence of the team, it gives you extra motivation.”

Speaking about the World Cup qualifiers, he added:

“It has been an effort from everyone in the national side, it’s like a family that we have formed/ We cannot let it slip now, we missed out on the last World Cup, we can’t miss this one. We have two difficult games coming up, but they are six points and two games that could give us qualification.”
