Arsenal defeated Sunderland 3-1 as Mesut Ozil impressed on his debut. Ozil provided a brilliant assist which was converted by Olivier Giroud. Just three minutes into the second half, Sunderland equalised from the penalty spot as Laurent Koscielny needlessly brought down Adam Johnson in the area and substitute Craig Gardner scored. But Aaron Ramsey sealed the game for Arsenal by scoring a brace.
