In an unfortunate incident, Manchester City fans were attacked by a group of around 50 hooligans in Seville; before the Champions League fixture between Manchester City and Sevilla on Tuesday night, Manchester evening news reports. Two City fans reportedly suffered serious injuries and few were left bleeding after the incident as well.

The Sky Blues thrashed Sevilla 3-1 in the Champions League encounter and secured their qualification to the knock-out stages of the tournament.

The incident happened at O’Neills Irish bar in the Spanish city where around 40 City fans were enjoying a drink the night just before the game. The thugs smashed glasses and threw tables and chairs in the pub, as a result of which a squabble broke out between the two groups.

A Manchester city season ticket holder named Paul talked to MEN about the incident.

“They had big batons and started smashing all the side of the pub up.The City fans tried to defend themselves. They were shutting the doors and trying to stay in the pub. They were smashing the pub windows and doors,” he said.

The 26-year old fan who follows City all around Europe added, “The City fans were pretty scared. There were a lot of women and young lads there. There was a man and woman cowering in the corner. A few pint glasses were getting chucked about and I think some of them had blades.

“When it finished they ran off.”

“Every single piece of glass was smashed. there were chairs thrown everywhere, cars had been smashed in at the side of the bar.”

“I saw lots of people with cuts and bruises. Someone told me a woman had been put in an ambulance. There was one guy bleeding quite badly from the head.”

The Citizens did not cause trouble to the locals according to Paul.

“There was a room full of City fans in the pub and we weren’t causing any trouble. Everybody was having a right good laugh and suddenly this happens. You don’t expect trouble when you go to Seville. I always chat to the fans from the other teams and it’s part of the fun. This was just unbelievable,” he added.

A meeting was scheduled on Tuesday morning between the local police, officials from both the clubs and officers from the Greater Manchester Police.
