Werder Bremen sign former Wigan striker Franco di Santo

Wigan Athletic v Swansea City - Premier League

Di Santo completed a move to Werder Bremen on Wednesday

Werder Bremen confirmed the signing of Argentine striker Franco Di Santo, 24, on a three year deal said the club on Wednesday, reported Yahoo Sports.

The striker, who has represented Argentina twice, spent a number of years in England with spells at Chelsea, Blackburn Rovers and finally Wigan, who won the FA Cup and were relegated from the Premier League last season.

“We were looking for a robust forward who had experience in the big leagues. We are certain to have found a good solution with Franco,” said Werder Bremen sports director Thomas Eichin.

“He wants to go with Argentina to the 2014 World Cup and we would be happy if he could make himself noticed here at Bremen to reach his goal.”

Werder Bremen’s Austrian forward Marko Arnautovic found himself out of favour last season and Di Santo’s arrival could spell the end of his stint at Werder.

The Bremen club last competed for the Bundesliga title in 2007-08 as they finished runners up but have found themselves lower down in the table in recent years.

Werder Bremen host Augsburg in the Bundesliga on Saturday.
