Manchester United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic has said that Jose Mourinho was the decisive factor in his move to the Premier League club. The former Sweden international also revealed that he had previously received two other offers from England, with Arsenal and Manchester City interested in signing him.

The 34-year old credited Mourinho for persuading him to join Manchester United as he considers him “the mastermind” of football. Ibrahimovic had previously worked under the Portuguese at Inter Milan where the duo proved to be very successful.

Ibrahimovic had joined United after months of speculation regarding his future as his contract with Paris Saint-Germain had run out this June. There were reports that the former Barcelona striker was interested in playing in England, but his destination was not decided until late July.

The striker had previously become Paris Saint Germain’s all-time record goalscorer as he helped the French club in winning five back-to-back league titles. The 34-year-old followed Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford after United had sacked manager Loius van Gaal after two disappointing seasons.

Ibrahimovic told reporters, “I was close to moving to the Premier League twice - once with Arsenal and then Manchester City. But it never happened and I don't need to play in the Premier League.”

Talking about his reunion with manager Jose Mourinho, the striker said, “Mourinho is the mastermind, the masterbrain. He knows what he needs to do to win. I learned a lot from him at Inter. Who wouldn't want to have Mourinho as manager?”

There is no doubt that the striker regards Mourinho in high esteem and will be working to bring back the glory days at Manchester United. The striker will be leading the line for United as they face Manchester City at home next Saturday.
