Fortnite has come a long way since its early days and has managed to carve out a niche of its own. During the initial days of the game, the best way to play was with a mouse and keyboard.

However, with the rise in popularity, the game has seen an influx of several controller players, whether it be on console or PC.

This rise in controller players has led to many debates and discussions over which control method is best and the demand for separate controller lobbies. However, are controller-only Fortnite lobbies a good idea?

Should Fortnite get controller-only lobbies?

The debate over separate lobbies for controllers and mice and keyboards has been ongoing for a long time now. Even Fortnite pro players have been demanding the same.

While controller players have a so-called aim assist advantage over mice and keyboards, Epic nerfed controller aim assist on PCs to level the ground.

Furthermore, even Bugha switched to the controller for a short while to see if there were any such advantages. He did pretty well with the controller but didn't stick around for long, which might be a point against the benefit of controllers.

Even Shroud talked about the matter and pointed out that separate controller lobbies are essential if you want a fair and competitive game. Epic Games has tried separating players for competitive events, but it didn't work out as flawlessly as expected.

So, are controller-only Fortnite lobbies a good idea? Yes, but Epic will need to implement stuff properly rather than just splitting up players.

To quote SypherPK, "When you try to make the controller competitive, you're going to have these frustrating fights, or people are just getting absolutely lasered at the expense of them not maybe being able to edit or build as precisely as a mouse and keyboard."

He later added, "Then, if you don't give them that opportunity, they'll never qualify for these tournaments."

So, in short, the whole thing isn't as simple as it seems. But with that said, the developers will have to figure out a way to balance out the game for both controller and mouse and keyboard players to enhance their experience.
