Gold was introduced in Fortnite a few seasons ago and quickly became a popular addition. It is the only form of in-match currency (not to be confused with in-game currencies like V-Bucks) and can be extremely useful for players.

Since it is so useful, many players may wonder whether or not their gold will carry over from match to match or season to season. The currency is valuable, so players don't necessarily want to see it go to waste.

As of now, gold carries over in every sense of the phrase. As long as they don't spend them, players will have the same amount of gold from match to match. When they open a chest and add nine gold bars to their total, the new amount will stay the same when they die and start the next match.

Additionally, in a new change, gold also carries over from season to season. This was previously not the case. In Chapter 3 Season 2, players had to spend their gold before the season ended, or else it would be lost.

However, going into Chapter 3 Season 4, many loopers have noticed that their gold totals have stayed the same. Instead of letting it expire, Epic Games allowed it to be renewed over a season.

Gold is technically referred to as "bars" in Fortnite.
