Following the launch of Unreal Editor for Fortnite, Atlas Creative launched the first-ever 'OG' map made using UEFN/Creative 2.0. Even though it is still in the 'beta' stage, it demonstrates how wonderful (and strong) this new program is. Nonetheless, the developers have agreed to let all island makers publish their remakes of Chapter 1.However, in light of the ability to monetize creator-islands based on certain metrics, Epic Games has added a small clause when it comes to monetization of 'OG' maps. According to the blog article, "Battle Royale Island" starting islands and islands that recreate Chapter 1 maps will not be monetized. Why has Epic Games rendered Fortnite Chapter 1 maps ineligible for monetization?Shiina@ShiinaBRLast night Epic released a statement regarding creative maps of previous Battle Royale chapters:- Epic allows players to create Chapter 1 maps, but they do NOT allow other Battle Royale chapter maps!- Maps recreating old versions of Battle Royale maps can not be monetized3709162Last night Epic released a statement regarding creative maps of previous Battle Royale chapters:- Epic allows players to create Chapter 1 maps, but they do NOT allow other Battle Royale chapter maps!- Maps recreating old versions of Battle Royale maps can not be monetized https://t.co/gZBhWFayaBIt has to do with intellectual property rights, according to the information acquired from the official blog post. Epic Games claims that all seasonal variants of Fortnite's Battle Royale maps and islands are their intellectual property. This also applies to Chapter 1 maps. Nevertheless, because the 'OG' Fortnite Chapter is so popular, the devs will enable all designers to publish modifications on Chapter 1 maps. Nevertheless, none of them will be commercialized because the rights to those maps will all be owned by Epic Games. As stated on the official blog, Epic Games is granting a 'special and specific' exception to allow creators to publish their remakes of the Chapter 1 maps. However, this only extends to Chapter 1.Why did Epic Games take this decision?iFireMonkey@iFireMonkeyAccording to a blog post from Epic Games, Islands recreating Chapter 1 maps will remain ineligible for monetization BUT Epic is granting a special and specific exception to allow creators to publish their own remakes of the Chapter 1 maps (and only the Chapter 1 maps)3045168According to a blog post from Epic Games, Islands recreating Chapter 1 maps will remain ineligible for monetization BUT Epic is granting a special and specific exception to allow creators to publish their own remakes of the Chapter 1 maps (and only the Chapter 1 maps)According to rumors, Epic Games made this decision for a purpose. With certain creators having an early start in Fortnite's Unreal Editor, it's only natural that they'll want to duplicate Chapter 1 maps for popularity. With engagement-based payouts, these Chapter 1 maps would take the lion's share of the 40% of revenue kept in reserve for creators. At the time, it wasn't mentioned that Chapter 1 maps would be ineligible for monetization.Doge@ItsDoge3D@AtlasCreativeFN @AtlasOGBR looks cool but like.Is it not weird to be given early access to a program and then immediately use it to dominate the market before people even get a grasp of the new tools…?This feels unfair to other creators imo.57@AtlasCreativeFN @AtlasOGBR looks cool but like.Is it not weird to be given early access to a program and then immediately use it to dominate the market before people even get a grasp of the new tools…?This feels unfair to other creators imo.As a result, there was a community backlash about how unfair it was that those select authors were given early access to UEFN. To minimize outrage, the creators are likely to have made this decision, making all Chapter 1 maps ineligible for revenue. At this time, it's unclear if the creative teams behind Atlas OG Battle Royale and Reboot Royale were informed of the same. That said, it's very likely that if someone were to create a Chapter 2 map, the submission of this creator-island would be rendered null and void. Here's what the community had to say:Johnnie@JerseyJhonnie@iFireMonkey It sucks, but I sort of understand. With how much they’re pushing the monetization of creative maps going forward, they want to make sure that money is going towards unique ideas and maps. Bummer for those that wanted Chapter 2 and 3 maps though.1721@iFireMonkey It sucks, but I sort of understand. It forces some originality and allows them to tell their own stories through locations and use of props. I don't miss the map, but would be more than thrilled to see peoples' own twists on things. 15@iFireMonkey I actually really like that idea. If they don't pay people for recreating any version of the map they want, then it gives them so much money. It's effectively another br that people will keep playing for. The motivation of dev teams may lower a bit, but it’s still considerably high considering how easily their other future maps would be popular just by association2@iFireMonkey Doesn’t matter. Having creators get paid for recreating something already made by epic was kinda goofy, and I respect them letting the current OG maps stay up21@iFireMonkey Kiiiiiiinda wish they said this earlier BUT this is a good change in the long run. With rules/regulations continually changing, perhaps Chapter 2 maps will be allowed in the future.Even if they are, island designers will be unable to sell them in any manner, similar to Fortnite Chapter 1 maps. They may, however, use them to demonstrate their abilities and emphasize their expertise within the ecosystem.
