As exciting as the arrival of Fortnite Chapter 4 is, many players might end up losing access to the game soon. Epic Games has decided to make changes to the officially supported software. This includes some previous versions of Microsoft Windows.

According to an official announcement from Epic Games, there have been changes to the legacy operating systems. The Battle Royale game will no longer be supported on Windows 7 and 8. Only players with Windows 10 and 11 will be able to run the official version of Epic's Battle Royale game.

This clearly comes as an unfortunate piece of news for players running the game on older versions of Windows OS. Although their devices will no longer support the Battle Royale game, there are still ways they can play the game without the official app.

Epic Games removes Fortnite on Windows 7 and 8

Microsoft released Windows 8 over a decade ago, and Windows 7 was released in 2009. Both these versions of the OS from Microsoft have become almost obsolete. Naturally, most new versions of applications and games are slowly becoming incompatible with older versions of the OS. Most PCs nowadays run on Windows 10 or 11, and games are slowly making the shift to newer versions of the OS.

The change will not take effect immediately. Players who play Fortnite on Windows 7 and 8 will still be able to play Chapter 4 Season 1 on their current devices. However, once Chapter 4 Season 2 releases, players will be required to use Windows 10 or higher in order to continue playing in an officially supported manner.

This means players have a good few weeks before they will have to find alternative ways to play the Battle Royale game. Once Epic Games pulls Fortnite on Windows 7 and 8, players will most likely have to move to newer versions of Microsoft Windows.

Use Nvidia GeForce Now to play Fortnite on Windows 7 and 8

If players cannot update their OS to Windows 10 or 11, they still have a way to play the Battle Royale game. Even after Epic Games removes Windows 7 and 8 as officially supported devices, players can still use Nvidia GeForce Now to play the Battle Royale game.

Cloud Gaming has made it possible for players worldwide to play the game on unsupported devices. After the ban from Apple and Google, many players now use services like Xbox Cloud and GeForce Now to play the game. Similarly, players can also use these services to play the game on a PC running Windows 7 or 8.

Nvidia GeForce Now will allow players to play the game completely free for an hour every day with limited graphics. However, paid users can play for extended periods of time and also have access to better graphics.
