The Rift Gate in Fortnite has been a hot-topic in-game for the entire duration of Chapter 4 Season 1. However, with Chapter 4 Season 2 due to begin, all good things must end, including the Rift Gate. A short while ago, it was discovered that the Rift Gate, which had been powering up over the last few days, had been destroyed.

It's very likely that it grew unstable and blew itself up, but rather than going "quietly into the night," it left behind something terrible. Something that strikes fear into the very hearts and souls of loopers. It left behind an ominous "Red Rift" that has split the sky above the island.

Given that something similar was seen at the end of Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 8, it can be said with certainty that the Red Rift is still not open. For if it was, players would have been able to peak into another reality, the one that leads to its other side. Nevertheless, it's safe to say that the end is nigh.

What will happen when Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1 ends?

With the Red Rift opening above the sky, something or someone will undoubtedly be coming through it very soon. While many speculate that it will be the "Shapeless Man," aka Geno and his Imagined Order, it may also be the reason why the island is getting a futuristic-Japanese theme next season.

While a rift to another dimension does establish a bridge, this one created by the Rift Gate doesn't seem to be stable. This, in theory, would allow it to collide with other realities Given that Rift Warden Stellan had to use Kinetic Ore to create a power source to fuel the Rift Gate, the energy, while powerful, may not be stable.

The fact that the Rift Gate exploded is a clear indication of this, but it could also be that it grew unstable because it was sabotaged. Whichever is the case, it's much too late to look back at things at the moment. Players will have to brace themselves for whatever is about to come through the Red Rift.

While the ominous red glow signals the arrival of evil forces, it may bring other 'good' entities through it as well. Perhaps this is how the Fox Clan will also arrive on the island in full-force. Considering they have been teased numerous times this season, this would be an exciting way to bring them back.

Will there be a live event to kick off Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2?

That said, those expecting a live event should probably brace for disappointment. While Epic Games is no doubt giving it their all to set up the arrival of Chapter 4 Season 2, there's no live event involved. If anything, the developers will showcase the advancement of the storyline via trailers and in-game cutscenes.

Nevertheless, given that the game now runs on Unreal Engine 5.1, it will look spectacular to say the least. If nothing else, Epic Games will put on a good cinematic showcase to promote the new season.
