Fortnite's latest challenges have finally dropped. Since there are so many pages of battle pass rewards available in Chapter 4 Season 1, challenges are extremely important to complete. They are still among the best ways to earn XP and level up.

This season, challenges are more time sensitive. It's no longer possible to wait until the last few days and complete all the challenges to get to the appropriate levels. Instead, they end when the week does.

For Week 5, these challenges won't be here forever, so players must complete them as soon as possible. This week, they're tasked with blocking shots with a guardian shield, which is a brand new item. Here's how to complete that.

Fortnite Guardian Shield: How to block shots with it

Step 1: Load up a Battle Royale match of Fortnite

The first step is to boot up the game on whatever device you are playing on, whether that's an Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, Android device, or PC. Once it loads, start a Battle Royale match. This can be done in Solo, Duos, Trios, or Squads as it doesn't necessarily require teammates.

Step 2: Find a Guardian Shield

Guardian Shields come from Oathbound Chests in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1. There are several different places on the map where these can be found, but the Citadel is arguably the best place for them. There's no guarantee you will find one in the first chest, but eventually, you'll come across one.

Step 3: Wait to be shot at

The Guardian Shield loses strength every second it is in use, whether that's from throwing it down or holding it. It has a percentage and it's gone when it hits zero. This is why you have to wait to be fired at. Once you are, you can begin blocking shots. You can use it by holding the fire button or you can throw it down in front of you and your teammates, but the challenge says while holding, so you may want to use that method.

Step 4: Block shots

Once it is active, it will block any incoming shots for the duration. That's all players have to do. It is also easier to use the Guardian Shield in your own hands as it is more flexible that way. Placing it down makes it rigid, but if you hold it, you can turn and try to block shots from other directions.

It has a time limit, so be prepared for that. You don't want it to run out and get caught unprepared, suddenly getting hit with a lot of shots. The game will likely end quickly if that happens.

For this challenge, Fortnite players have to block shots in stages 10, 25, 40, 60, and 80. Once players have blocked 10 shots, they'll earn a bit of XP and can begin counting the 25. Once that's done, they can begin the 40 and continue that way.
