The Fortnite Tidy emote made its way back to the item shop after 1455 days. It's one of the most sought-after and controversial cosmetics to exist in-game. It was first released in Chapter 1 Season 3 and immediately became popular within the community, and this is where the issues began.

The emote is based on a dance performed by Snoop Dogg in the music video for his 2004 song, Drop It Like It's Hot. Apparently, based on speculation, Epic Games used the emote without prior permission or without informing the artist.

Once the artist caught wind of it, it was speculated that a lawsuit would be filed, but thankfully this didn't come to fruition. Instead, the Fortnite Tidy emote was vaulted and was never meant to see the light of day again - that was until it was listed in the item shop today, and unceremoniously removed within two hours.

If the Fortnite Tidy emote was never meant to be unvaulted, why was it in the item shop?

As summarized by veteran leaker iFireMonkey, "Someone made an oopsie," is the best way to describe the situation. It seems that an Epic Games employee unintentionally or mistakenly added the emote back.

Given the sheer volume of cosmetics in-game, it's not possible to keep track of all items that are to remain vaulted. Furthermore, since the emote was updated in the files, it made sense for it to feature in the item shop under the 'Vaulted a Year or More' section.

Alas, soon after the mistake was discovered, the Fortnite Tidy emote was removed from the item shop along with the entire 'Vaulted a Year or More' section. Following the removal, an official status was posted to confirm the same.

However, no reason was mentioned and there was no talk of the Tidy emote making a return. It's safe to assume that it will once more be vaulted and stricter measures will be implemented to ensure that it's never added back to the item shop again.

Will players that purchased the Fortnite Tidy emote today get to keep it?

Given that this was a blunder on Epic Games' part, players will more than likely get to keep the emote. This is based on the logical fact that the "OG" players who purchased the emote in Chapter 1 can still use it till this day. Since there is no official lawsuit, there's nothing stopping players from keeping the emote.

However, on that note, since the Fortnite Tidy emote was added back to the item shop, its rarity has been reset. Although it was featured briefly for two hours, during that time period it was available for purchase. By definition, if something is available, it's not rare. Here's how a few fans reacted to the situation:

With all that said and done, it's truly left to be seen if the Fortnite Tidy emote ever returns to the item shop. Those who managed to buy it before it was removed are the lucky few in-game. For those who weren't able to, they may have to wait for another 1,400 days and hope Epic Games slips up and adds it to the item shop again.
