Catching a chicken is not rocket science in Fortnite, but it can be daunting (and somewhat taunting). For some reason, chickens seem to outsmart players just as we use Sprint to increase our speed and get closer to them.

At that very moment, the chicken changes direction, and players are left with no winner-winner chicken dinner. For newcomers on the island, this can be frustrating. Nevertheless, there is an easy way to catch a chicken in a single attempt.

A step-by-step on how to catch a chicken in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1

Here are three easy steps to catching a chicken in Fortnite. It goes like this - find a safe location, check the 'interaction' key, and finally, get close to the chicken before attempting to catch it. Here are the steps elaborated:

The first thing to do is find a safe spot where chicken spawns on the island. While there are plenty of minor landmarks to land at, Lonely Labs is a good option for several reasons. The POI has good loot, is isolated, and players can 'shoot two birds with one bullet,' so to speak, as another Creed Quest can be completed here.

After landing and clearing the POI, the next task is to find a chicken. Despite the cold, these avians don't seem to mind 'chilling out' in the snow and ice. Climb atop a structure in the area to get a bird's eye view of the area and find a chicken.

2) Double checking the 'interaction' aka Harvesting Tool key on the gaming device

After spotting the chicken, don't rush toward it if you're a newcomer to the game. First, open the settings and check what key and button are bound to the Harvesting Tool selection. This is the same key/button that has to be used to grab the chicken.

Many players tend to confuse this interaction key and end up mashing keys/buttons to try and grab the chicken. In the process, the chicken escapes, leaving the player high and dry.

3) Getting close to the chicken before using Sprint and catching it

Once everything is in order, the final step is to advance towards the chicken normally (preferably without shooting it). Once close enough to see the white in its eyes, use the Sprint function to rush towards it and grabbing it.

It's crucial that players Sprint and press the interaction key/button to grab the chicken in one smooth motion. This will make the task easier. Given that they tend to panic and run away once a player gets close enough, this smooth motion will ensure it can be caught on the first attempt.

Note: This method can be used in Build Mode and Zero Build.
