Fortnite remains one of the most popular video games. Released over five years ago, Epic Games has managed to keep players entertained with frequent updates and new content.

With the release of Creative 2.0, the number of active players will likely skyrocket. However, even if it doesn't increase, Fortnite's player count in 2023 is still very impressive.

On Wednesday, March 22, Epic Games held a live stream that introduced Unreal Editor for the game. During the live stream, the game's developers revealed a lot of interesting information, including the player count in 2023.

Back in May 2020, Epic Games announced that its most popular video game had 350 million players. For nearly three years, the video game creator did not post any news regarding the player count, but that changed on March 22.

It turns out that Fortnite has a total of 500 million players at the moment. In other words, over half a billion players have played the battle royale video game since its release in September 2017.

Regarding video games available across multiple platforms, only PUBG: Battlegrounds and Minecraft have had more players.

This wasn't the only positive news shared by Epic Games during the Unreal Engine live stream. In addition to having 500 million players, Fortnite has 70 million monthly active users.

Not many games have managed to get this many active players on a monthly basis, especially after five years. However, it appears that all the updates that Epic has released have positively impacted the player base.

The video game developer also revealed that 40% of playtime is spent in the Creative mode. Considering how many players enjoy creator-made maps, the release of Creative 2.0 will likely further increase the player count.
