A new type of bike can be seen in the Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 (Mega) trailer released a while back. Thunder and Highwire can be seen riding on it, and when confronted by Eren Yeager, they come to a grinding halt spectacularly.

While it looks merely cinematic at first, there's more to it than initially meets the eye. According to the leakers, how the bike was brought to a halt is identical to how Shōtarō Kaneda stops his bike in the anime. Although this is based on speculation, Donald Mustard may have teased a collaboration with Akira.

Donald Mustard is known for dropping hints and teasers on social media. Soon after the Fortnite Mega Cinematic trailer was unveiled, he shared a post on Twitter and commented under the post saying: "0:52"

This timestamp is when the bike on which Thunder and Highwire are sitting comes to a grinding halt in the trailer. Since this season is Japanese-themed, collaborating with Akira makes sense.

The new bike looks very similar in design to the one Shōtarō Kaneda uses. That said, the collaboration with Akira may only be limited to the vehicles used in the anime.

However, given that the metaverse is constantly growing, an Outfit and other cosmetics associated with the anime may also be added in. Given how well-received anime collaborations have been in-game, at this point, 'more is truly merrier.' That said, there's no timeline in place for the collaboration as of yet.

When will the Akira collaboration take place?

With Fortnite Mega kicking off in just a few hours, the Akira collaboration will likely occur sometime after the second or third major seasonal update. Adding more things will not make sense, with so much new content for players to try out now.

Since Eren Yeager from Attack on Titan is already the season's highlight, Epic Games will want to space out collaborations to maximize the impact. Releasing everything at once will likely reduce the return on investment substantially.

On the flipside of things, having an Akira-themed bike in-game will work well from day one. This would, in theory, allow players to familiarize themselves with the anime before the main collaboration happens in-game.

With all that said, this is still just rumors and speculation. While Donald Mustard has dropped a hint, it may not materialize instantly. Given how content is rationed over the next few weeks, there's no telling when exactly or whether this collaboration will come to fruition this season.

Nevertheless, with developers raising the bar every season, they will try their best to accommodate as many crossovers as humanly possible. Things should be fine as long as the Outfits and assets look as good as the anime skins from seasons gone by.
