Fortnite Project Nova allows one to travel back to the OG days of the metaverse. Players can experience the battle royale as it was in its heyday. While the title is not associated with Epic Games in any way, it has been steadily increasing in popularity over the last few months.

Users ForkKnifeGame_ and Ahava_Official have created a surreal experience and made it free to play. That said, those interested in trying out the game will have to follow a few steps before being able to hot-drop into the past.

Project Nova is the best way to experience the original Fortnite

To get started with Project Nova, players must first download the available client via the developer's Discord channel and set up the file. Although this process can be tricky for newcomers, there's a tutorial video to help figure things out. That said, getting things right may take an attempt or two.

Once done, players can hot-drop into different seasons of Fortnite Chapter 1. While this part is great, there are a few limitations. Players cannot host their servers using this client to play the game. Since the project is independent, resources are limited.

Furthermore, the client does not seem to support anything apart from solo gameplay. Players will not be able to team up with friends or others. On the bright side, the developers have made provisions for using controllers with the application.

Although this version of Fortnite is nothing like the current Chapter in terms of technical support and graphical superiority, it's a humbling experience nonetheless. Being able to play the game as it was in 2019 is nothing short of opening up a time capsule.

Why doesn't Epic Games allow players to revisit past Chapters officially?

While there are several reasons for this query, ranging from marketing to ROI, the main one is the difficulty of maintaining everything. Considering that three Chapters have been completed so far, that's a lot of content to moderate and keep in check should they all be available simultaneously.

With over 22 seasons, the number of things developers would have to keep track of would be nothing short of ludicrousy. Furthermore, with the storyline still actively progressing in Chapter 4, there's a lot of work that has to be done. Epic Games will not be able to divert resources should anything go wrong.

Other issues, such as server distribution and varying versions of the Unreal Engine, will make the task even more troublesome. Although Epic games would theoretically be able to allow players to visit the old Chapters, it's not a feasible move.

With Fortnite being a live service game, the endgame is to keep the timeline and storyline moving forward. As sad as it may be, there's no way to stop the future from becoming the present and, eventually, the past.

As mentioned, while Fortnite Project Nova is not perfect, it's the only way players can relive the old days in-game. While it may not be everyone's glass of SLAP juice, it could be someone's barrel of SLURP juice.
