PSN scheduled for maintenance on Thursday, February 12th

PlayStation Network will be down for maintenance this Thursday

PSN will be down for maintenance this Thursday, February 12th from 10.30 pm to 2:00 am IST. Sony has announced that the maintenance should last for 3.5 hours while they apply a series of ‘back end improvements to the network’. While the downtime will affect every console, players who have already signed onto the network before the maintenance begins will still be able to play games online and access apps.

Here are some notes provided by Sony regarding the workaround:

  • PS4 users – The PS4 must be activated as your Primary System in order to play online titles and services. Check here for instructions on setting your PS4 as your Primary System.
  • PS3/PS Vita – Make sure to sign in to the network on the device(s) you plan to use during maintenance.

The only services players cannot access during maintenance are the PlayStation Store, PlayStation Home and Account Management, which will be unavailable even if you logged in before the downtime. Trying to access these services will give you a maintenance notification instead.

PSN has faced a number of outages recently, with the worst being during the Holiday Season. The most recent outage was during Super Bowl Sunday last week, but the network as remained stable since then. The Network was under a series of attacks by hackers last month, which caused multiple outages and issues. Hopefully this maintenance will help resolve any problems that have been plaguing the service, as well as fortify the network from future attacks.
