Durand Cup is the oldest football tournament in Asia, it was founded in 1888 and named after its founder, Sir Mortimer Durand who was Foreign Secretary in charge of India from 1884 to 1894. There are 16 teams involved in Durand Cup 2019, 5 teams from ISL, 6 from I-League, 1 team from 2nd division of I-League and 4 teams from armed forces. The matches will be played in West Bengal, i.e in Kolkata, Kalyani and Siliguri, all the matches will be played in 5 different stadiums across these places.
Indian Super League
Five ISL teams will take part in Durand cup 2019, this the first time ISL teams will be taking part in Durand Cup. Current ISL Champions Bengaluru FC along with ATK, Chennaiyin FC, FC Goa and Jamshedpur FC will be participating in this edition of Durand Cup. Indian Super League has been growing as a Global event since it's inauguration in 2013 so it'll be great to see ISL teams playing in revamped Durand Cup.
I-League
I-League teams Chennai City F.C, East Bengal, Gokulam Kerala, Mohun Bagan, TRAU and Real Kashmir will be participating in this edition of Durand Cup. It'll a very good platform for I League players and teams to show case real talent and skills against other league teams.
I-League 2nd division
I-League 2nd division team Mohammedan will be the only 2nd division team to participate in Durand Cup 2019, Mohammedan is one of the oldest football clubs in India with a fan base spread across the country.
Armed Force Teams
Armed Force Teams Indian Air Force, Army Green, Army Red, Indian Navy will be participating in this edition of Durand Cup. Defending Champions Army Green will be looking forward to continue their good performances and also to retain the title.
