Indonesia Open Badminton 2018

The Indonesia Open is a badminton tournament held yearly and organised by Badminton Association of Indonesia.


The tournament is being held in Indonesia since 1982. It had achieved a grade two badminton tournament status after becoming a part of BWF Superseries tournament in 2007. In the year 2011, it achieved the Superseries Premier status.


The 2018 Indonesia Open will be the twelfth tournament of the 2018 BWF World Tour and will also feature as a part of Indonesia Open championships.


Venue


The Indonesia Open was hosted by different cities in the past, with Samarinda being the first one to host the event in 1990. However, the capital city of Jakarta is hosting the tournament since 2004 to present.


The 2018 tournament will take place at the Istora Gelora Bung Karno which is an indoor sporting arena in Jakarta.


Prize Money


The total tournament prize money this year has amounted to US$1,250,000. The Finalists of Singles will get $42,500, where as the doubles will get $43,750. 

The Winners of Singles will get $87,500, where as those playing for doubles will get $92,500.

Favorites


Although there is tough competition between the top eight seeds in all the categories, there are a few players who are expected to show big performances.


Defending champion of Men’s Singles category, Srikanth Kidambi of India is expected to give a tough fight, he has also earned a silver medal in the 2018 Commonwealth games and is in good form. However players like Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia can also rise to the occasion.
