Oakmont Country Club is really giving Scottie Scheffler a hard time this week. The PGA Tour professional is currently playing in the second round of the 2025 U.S. Open, and Scheffler encountered a moment of frustration. This incident has gained considerable traction on the internet.
Oakmont CC has proved itself as historically tough, and the latest renovation stands as a hurdle in front of every golfer. The venue's thick rough, and unpredictable greens have made players frustrated, and Scottie Scheffler's on the list as well. The golfer was playing a shot that even achieved a 104 Ft apex.
However, as the ball approached its landing, Scheffler's reaction proved that it was an unprecedented setback. The World's No. 1 pro slammed his club onto the ground.
"Gosh Dang It," Scheffler uttered in frustration.
Scheffler's reaction was captured by an X (previously Twitter) account named theseeingi. Take a look at the full clip:
"Scottie Scheffler with the violent club slam and a passionate “Gosh Dang it!”... Things are getting out of hand here at Oakmont"
Considering Scheffler's history of staying composed throughout rounds, the poor shot most likely resulted from the adverse setting. Oakmont CC has been considerably demanding during the 2025 U.S. Open. USGA has rated it a solid 77.5, which further explains Scottie Scheffler's outburst.
Today, the Texan pro started playing the second round from hole 10 and scored a birdie. He finished playing the back nine with two bogeys on holes 15 and 17. In the front nine, Scottie Scheffler has scored two more bogeys on holes one and three, and two more birdies on holes two and four.
Friday, in the press conference, Scheffler gave an honest update regarding the course conditions.
Scottie Scheffler talks about the challenging setup of the 2025 U.S. Open
After the opening round of the 2025 U.S. Open, a very few professionals secured an under-par score. It's worth noting that Scottie did not happen to fall on that list. He ended up shooting 3 over par 73.
In the press conference, Scottie Scheffler provided an update regarding the challenging course conditions he had to deal with. The PGA Tour pro explained the nature of the lightning-fast greens of the iconic Pennsylvania golf venue (quoted by ASAP Sports).
"The greens just got challenging out there late in the day. There's so much speed and so much pitch and then with the amount of guys going through on these greens, they can get a little bit bumpy."
He further spoke on how the play got affected largely due to the penal nature of the course (quoted by Golf.com):
"It’s just really hard to get the ball in play, and it’s really hard to get the ball close. Anytime you’re out of position, the golf course just gets really challenging."
Scheffler's total score is currently 4 over par through 33 holes of the 2025 U.S. Open.
