India will start as favourites against Pakistan in Men's hockey

If there was a rivalry for the ages across all platforms, it would have to be an encounter between India and Pakistan. Whenever the two nations meet, it isn't short of activity. Be it politics, sport or diplomacy, there is always something to talk about when India and Pakistan are up against each other.

The arch-rivals will be at it again tomorrow, this time at the Commonwealth Games 2018 in Gold Coast, hoping to pick up a vital victory and set course towards a possible medal-winning show at the games.

India start as favourites in this one and are firm contenders to progress from a group that includes the likes of England, Malaysia and Wales. Pakistan, on the other hand, will be looking to upset the odds with a defiant performance in front of their visiting supporters.

The last encounter between the two teams was at the Asia Cup in Bangladesh last year where India came up tops. India also won the last CWG match between the sides on home soil in 2010 where they famously scored seven goals past a hapless Pakistani defence.

Pakistan however, will take heart from the fact that they pulled off a victory over India four years prior to that in Melbourne 2006.

India Coach Sjoerd Marijne has spearheaded success in his reign as boss and in new captain Manpreet Singh, the team has gritty leadership at the helm. The world will be watching as two famous sporting nations battle it out on the Gold Coast.
