Hockey India Annual Awards to be held on March 28

The hockey awards will act as a boost for Indian players

New Delhi, March 16 (IANS)

Hockey India's (HI) first ever Annual Awards will take place here on March 28. The awards are an effort towards recognising the hard work put in by hockey players, coaches, support staff and administrators both nationally and internationally. At the ceremony, HI will felicitate teams and individuals because for their brilliant performances in 2014.

"We announced the Annual Awards last year and this 28th March will witness the first awards ceremony in New Delhi. In recent times, HI has taken various steps towards up lifting the sport in the country and this is one such initiative to ensure that the players receive the recognition that they so rightly deserve," HI president Narinder Batra said.

Awards list with prize money:

Major Dhyan Chand Lifetime Achievement Award Rs.30 lakh

Dhruv Batra Award for Player of the Year (Men) Rs.25 lakh

Dhruv Batra Award for Player of the Year (Women) Rs.25 lakh

Jugraj Singh Award for Upcoming Player of the Year (Men - Under 21) Rs.10 lakh

Asunta Lakra Award for Upcoming Player of the Year (Women - Under 21) Rs.10 lakh

Baljit Singh Award for Goalkeeper of the Year Rs.5 lakh

Pargat Singh Award for Defender of the Year Rs.5 lakh

Ajit Pal Singh Award Midfielder of the Year Rs.5 lakh

Dhanraj Pillay Award for Forward of the Year Rs.5 lakh

Jaman Lal Sharma Award for Invaluable Contribution (for coaches and support staff) Rs.5 lakh

Hockey India President Award for Outstanding Achievement Rs.5 lakh
