Mandeep Singh hits past Malaysia’s goalkeeper Subramiam Kumar

Indian Men’s Hockey team finished their league matches stage with a victory over Malaysia by 4-3 on Friday, 08 November 2013.

With this win, India sealed their second victory in the Asian Champions Trophy Hockey 2013.

The Indians took no time to open their scorecard as Ramandeep Singh scored a field goal in the 4th minute of the match. Malaysia came back quickly into the match with Azreen Rizal Bin Nasir’s goal in the 10th minute.

Two minutes later, in the 12th minute, Malaysia scored another goal when Faizal Saari penetrated the Indian defence to make the lead 2-1 in Malaysia’s favour.

In the second half of the match, India was successful in levelling the score 2-2 when Malak Singh scored a field goal in the 41st minute. Malak looked in good touch as 10 minutes later; he scored his second goal of the match in the 51st minute to take India ahead in the match by 3-2.

In the 54th minute, Mandeep Singh was successful in beating the Malaysian defence and goalkeeper Kumar Subramaniam to score the fourth goal for India and take the score 4-2.

Faizal Saari reduced the margin in the 67th minute by scoring his second goal of the day.

Thus, Indian men were successful in clinching their second victory of the tournament by defeating Malaysia 4-3 in their last league match.

India and Oman will be up against each other on Sunday for the fifth-sixth position match.

Defending champions Pakistan will lock horns with the Japanese men in the Final. On the other side, Malaysia and China will face each other for the third-fourth position encounter.

In the second clash of the day, China crushed Oman by 6-0 to register their third victory in the tournament. China was ahead by 3-0 at the end of the first half and scored 3 goals in the next half to take away the match by a comprehensive score of 6-0.

The third and last league match of the men’s side proved to be a close encounter between Pakistan and Japan. After a levelled score of 1-1 at the end of half time, the match tied with a score of 2-2. Both teams have qualified for the Final encounter of the tournament which will be witnessed on Sunday, 10th November, 2013 at the Green Stadium, Kakamigahara in Japan.
