India go down fighting 2-4 in its first clash against Korea in Champions Challenge

28th April 2013, Glasgow: The Indian women’s hockey team had a confident start in its first match and went down fighting to Korea today at the Champions Challenge 1 in Glasgow, Scotland. The team opened the scoring in the 12th minute through Vandana Katariya’s field goal. This got the Koreans on the back foot but they moved its attack immediately and in the 14th minute they scored the equalizer goal from the stick of Mihyun Park. The Koreans again scored in the 24th and 25th minute taking the scorecard to 3-1 at the end of the first session.

The Indian team maintained a steady attack in the second half but was unable to stop the opponent from scoring it’s 4th goal in the 42nd minute which they converted through the penalty corner opportunity that the team got. The Indian women did not give up and in the 69th minute they scored their 2nd goal through Poonam Rani’s field goal but lost the match 2-4.
