Sardar Singh denies getting engaged to the woman; seeks time to have a look at the complaint

Sardar Singh

Wednesday morning saw a news break out about Indian hockey captain Sardar Singh being accused of sexually harassing a junior international player of Indian origin. The 21-year-old had alleged that Sardar had “physically, emotionally and mentally” tortured her and had been ignoring her after the abortion of their child.

Responding to the accusations, the 29-year-old asked for time to have a look at the complaint filed by the woman before giving answers to the allegations and added that he found out about the news only on Tuesday night.

“I will first look what is the complaint, give me time...I will answer all the allegations. I came to know about this late last night only. I had a match yesterday [in Delhi] and have to play a match tomorrow as well,” he told reporters on Wednesday. He also denied that he had got engaged to her.

The girl is blackmailing him: Hockey India official

Reacting to the news, a prominent official in Hockey India said that the woman had been stalking the player for the last two years and added that Sardar had the complete backing from his side.

“I can't interfere in anybody's personal life, but I know of the situation for the last two years. She has been stalking him for the past two years, and the coaches have also noted that - be it Roelant [Oltmans], [Terry] Walsh or [Paul] van Ass. She was at times also told to leave the team hotel," the official told IBNLive

“This girl is blackmailing him; that's the factual situation. This is what players and officials have told me. Sardar has my full support on this issue," he added.
