Gujarat Fortunegiants

In the 101st match of the Pro Kabaddi League Season 5, the Gujarat Fortunegiants will clash against the defending champions, Patna Pirates as a part of the Inter-Zone Challenge Week at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai.

The Gujarat Fortunegiants suffered a loss in their last match against the Tamil Thalaivas by a slender margin of just one point. While the Patna Pirates are coming into this encounter on the back of a 36-34 win against Dabang Delhi.

The Fortunegiants have emerged as one of the stronger teams in this season and rest on the second position in the points tally in Zone A, a win tonight will take them to the top of the table in place of the Haryana Steelers. The attack of the team is spearheaded by young gun Sachin, who has been stellar with his raiding and is coming off yet another Super-10 from the last match, he will be assisted by the likes of newbie Chandran Ranjit and skipper, Sukesh Hegde who make significant contributions to the scoreboard.

The defence of the team is bolstered by the presence of Iranian power-houses Fazel Atrachali and Abozar Mighani who operate in the corner position and are absolutely lethal with their tackles. The cover positions are manned by the Indian duo of Sunil and Parvesh Bhainswal, both of whom have combined well with the Iranians to put up a formidable wall in the defence.

The Patna Pirates, on the other hand, are perched atop the points tally in Zone B with 65 points from 18 matches and will be looking to extend their lead with a win tonight. The team largely benefits from the golden form of their skipper, Pardeep Narwal who has been absolutely rampant on the mat when it comes to raiding and does the bulk of the scoring for the team.

Alongside him in the attack, Monu Goyat plays a vital role as the alternate raider and the form of these two raiders, allows the coach to field a side with five defenders. These are in the likes of Vishal Mane, Sachin Shingade, Vijay, Jawahar Dagar and Jaideep. Apart from the latter who picked up a High-5 in the last match, the rest need to buck up by a huge margin and feature an impregnable defensive side.

This match will essentially feature a mini battle in itself, one of Pardeep Narwal against the Gujarat defence which has probably been the best so far in the season. Thus, this battle will also eventually decide the outcome of the match which is likely to go down the wire.
