Retriever Dry Dog Food recall: Reason, refund, and all you need to know

Texas Farm Production Company (TFP Nutrition) recently issued a nationwide recall for its Retriever Dry Dog Food over potential Salmonella contamination concerns. Consuming the affected dog food can make dogs sick and lethargic.

Announced on October 21, the voluntary recall applies to Retriever All Life Stages Mini Chunk Chicken Recipe Dry Dog Food. The recall comes after a single sample from the lot tested positive for Salmonella. The random sample testing was conducted under the supervision of the Office of the Texas State Chemist.

Salmonella-contaminated dog food may cause Salmonellosis infections in dogs and lead to them experiencing symptoms like fever, diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and loss of appetite. Healthy and active pets, on the other hand, might also act as carriers of infections and could contaminate both humans and other pet animals. Such infections may spread when individuals don't wash their hands with soap after touching infected pets.

The people infected may experience symptoms including bloody diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, nausea, and fever. If the condition is serious, individuals may also experience muscle pain, irritation in the eyes, arterial infections, and more.

There have not been any reports of dogs or owners experiencing sicknesses related to the recalled dog food as of this writing.

Pet owners and handlers across the United States were warned about a voluntary recall of Retriever Dry Dog Food products issued by Texas Farm Production Company (TFP Nutrition) of Nacogdoches, TX. Feared to be affected by Salmonella contaminants the recalled product could cause sickness in both pet dogs and their handlers and/or owners.

Packed in labeled green bags of 50 lb. each, the recalled product was available under the name - "Retriever All Life Stages MINI CHUNK CHICKEN RECIPE Dry Dog Food." Manufactured between October 4, 2023, and October 5, 2023, the affected dog food was available with two best-before dates that were printed on the packet - BEST BY 10 2024 3277 TFP and BEST BY 10 2024 3278 TFP.

The Retriever Dry Dog Food was distributed to major retailers in Arizona, Arkansas, California, New Mexico, Mississippi, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Nevada, Utah, and Texas. While the product has already been removed from stores, it is believed that several individuals may have already bought it for their dogs.

"All recalled product has been removed from store shelves and no other Tractor Supply Company products are affected by the voluntary recall," the company's announcement read.

Handlers and owners across the nation are urged not to feed the recalled dry dog food to their dogs any longer. All bags of dog food affected by this recall can either be replaced or returned to retail stores.
