Commentary

Alright then, Australia at one point looked like they will coast to victory but some hiccups at the end but still finished the game with ease as they go 1-0 up in the series and these two side meet again on Saturday in Sydney, will be interesting to see if England level the series or Australia go on to wrap it up. Jos Buttler (England Captain): No fuss about the result, it was all about the character we showed, we want to play in a certain way, we tried to do that with the bat, Dawid Malan played a fantastic innings, I thought from the position we were to get to that score was brilliant. In the field, we took risks, we had different fields and everyone responded well but really with the way we played. Needed to take wickets, we tried things, at point the game would've been done soon but great effort to push it till the end. Quick turnaround, we play on Saturday, we're going to see how everyone pulls up and we want to give opportunities the guys and keep deepening the talent pool. (About the catch) Didn't expect to take it but really enjoyed it!

Pat Cummins (Australia Captain): Fantastic performance, team performance as well, really pleasing, we came here in fresh after a week. I think the spread out, Ash Agar in the team after a while, Travis Head stepped up, couple of spinners bowling different positions normally, was great. More of a management decision about leaving out Josh than selection. Plenty of test cricket and it was really pleasing to see Steve Smith back in amongst the runs, he's been working hard in the nets, we all know he's class. Came out well today, getting better and better in the last three months or so, looking for the long summer.

Dawid Malan has been adjudged the Player of the Match for his brilliant hundred! Here's what he has to say: Usually it's a good wicket with bit more bounce, quite nice and ground like this it's quite good. Gutted to have missed the two games, semi-finals and the finals of T20 World Cup, especially having put in so much work in the last 2 years but to come in here and score a hundred is satisfying. It did early on, they were good with the ball, we were 20-40 runs short there. It's always important, fifty over cricket is my strongest format, hopefully if I can keep doing what I'm doing, I can start getting in and be part of that squad. Wanted to come in early on but didn't wanted to fancy my chances against Alex Carey with short boundaries either side.

Travis Head: Nice to start off with a win, bit of pressure in the last month or so, it was nice to come out and do well. Pretty easy with Davey at the other end, we got off to a good start, nice to contribute with a win. Davey takes the pressure off me scoring quickly, partnership working in the past and hopefully we can continue to do it. Smith was brilliant wasn't he and he's always key for us.

Australia chase it down comfortably in the end with 19 balls to spare, thanks to the 147 run opening partnership of Warner and Head. Head cored 69 runs and he was the first one to depart, Jordan got the first breakthrough for England but it came too late.

Warner scored 86 runs before getting out to Willey, a great catch by Billings. He got a good partnership alongside Smith for the second wicket, the duo added 53 runs together. Smith stayed on till the end and scored 80 runs and hit a six to complete the chase.

Labushagne got out early to a really good slower ball by Willey and a brilliant catch by Buttler. Carey stayed on for a while and got a few boundaries in before departing as well. Green came in and helped Smith with 3 boundaries as well as they scored slower in the end than they did at the start of the innings.

No wickets for the first 147 runs cost them the match here, as Willey took 2 wickets while Jordan and Dawson took a wicket each. Stone bowled exceptionally well with an economy of 5. They will look to come back with the ball in the next match.
