What an entertainer to start the series. Trent Boult bowled superbly to pin the Aussies down inside the powerplay but dropped a sitter off Cameron Green and that proved to be a big difference in the end. New Zealand have to be so proud of their fighting spirit and it remains to be seen how they respond on Thursday to level the series

Cameron Green(Man of the Match): Yeah a little bit tired and sore but a couple of days off for the next game, that's good. Credit to Zampa for finishing the game well. Groin, calf, hamstring and forearm - everything is a concern at the moment but should be fine for the next game. Carey played beautifully. It means a lot to score the half-century and get that monkey off the back now. Hopefully, I will try to build on this
Kane Williamson (New Zealand captain): It's a tricky surface. We would've added a few more. Credit to Carey and Green for the outstanding partnership. They were 5 down early and we wanted to get another breakthrough but they played really well. It was difficult to hit through the lines as I said it was a tough at the start, credit to Australia, Carey and Green played an outstanding innings. We were just one delivery away trying to break it, took it till deep in the end. Just needed to create few more opportunities, more importantly, we needed to adapt to the conditions with the bat. It was a really difficult with the bat, hitting through the line was difficult, trying to scrape, build some sort of a partnership, we wanted a few more to get over the line but will re-asses!
Aaron Finch (Captain, Australia): The heartbeat was certainly running high at the start, that partnership with Carey and Green was sensational. They soaked up a lot of pressure, as they moved on, they played stress free cricket, credit to New Zealand, they came out of the blocks brilliantly. (About the early trouble) Not ideal, when you face a world class bowling attack, it's expected to happen, Boult can swing both ways, we have to get better at that, top four, we haven't got the runs, it's something to work on and it's a nice to get a win, not everything goes your way. (About Green's fitness in the end) He was cramping, his both calves went, both groins went and then his fore-arm, amazing effort from him to play a match winning knock like that.

A sheer batting masterclass from Alex Carey and Cameron Green as they stitched a match-defining partnership after the hosts were reduced to 44-5. This game had everything from start to finish but Australia somehow managed to keep their cool and emerged victorious.
New Zealand never gave up after posting a modest total on the board as Trent Boult tore the Australian top order apart. His in-swingers were too hot to handle as Finch, Smith and Labuschagne all fell prey inside the powerplay. Warner played some scintillating shots in the middle but Henry ended his stay before bowing a peach to get rid of Marcus Stoinis.
Then, Carey and Green soaked up all the pressure that was surrounding the Aussies as the duo played so sensible in the middle. Runs came thick and fast once they found the groove, and all of a sudden, New Zealand bowlers ran out of ideas to break this partnership.
Both scored a half-century and Australia were cruising along nicely but there was a batting collapse late on to break this game wide open. Ferguson got rid of Alex Carey before Glenn Maxwell perished while playing a risky shot off Trent Boult. The hosts lost three wickets for just five runs, and to add more salt to the wound, Cameron Green was struggling with cramps. But Adam Zampa gave a steady hand and helped Australia to win the low-scoring thriller
A disappointing delivery from Lockie Ferguson as his attempted bouncer goes down the leg. After all the drama that has unfolded in the last 20-30 minutes, Australia managed to come out on top and go 1-0 up in the series
