Natalie Sciver-Brunt (England Captain) : Yeah, massively pleased. Everyone was really on it, we had a few first ball wickets, couldn't have asked for a better start. Linsey Smith struck to her strengths, she's a left arm spinner but can also swing the ball. She got us the big scalps initially against the batters from their team who have scored big runs in recent times. Sarah Glenn is on the bench, we are blessed to have so many talented individuals on our side who are willing to contribute. It has been a captain's dream.

Laura Wolvaardt [South Africa captain]: "Not the best way to start the tournament, we became bad unit with the bat. Still a long way to go, hopefully we can turn things around in the next games. England bowled well with the new ball, they made it count. We probably didn't expect that much swing, probably could've played start. Get ourselves at the start, that's what we missed. She's alright, we found out she could be very effective and bring her on, see how she does. Just to keep trusting, we've done this and we've had really good preparations. With good support staff, we need to keep this loss behind and move on."

Linsey Smith is the Player of the Match! Here's what she has to say: "Really delighted, to get that start was brilliant and win the first game is even more special. Yesterday talked to me to open the bowling, tough challenge, but the conditions suited me and lucky I did well. Just backing myself, not overcomplicate and keep the stumps in play, came out today. There's huge talent in the squad, everyone pushing for places. Everyone offers different things, hopefully we keep learning."

If one labels this game as one-sided, even that shall be an understatement. When you get shot out for the 3rd lowest total in the history of your game, there are less chances that you fight for a win. It has simply been one of those days for South Africa. Chloe Tryon was introduced as early as in the 2nd over of the chase hoping for the same magical effect that Linsey Smith was able to weave in the first innings but unfortunately, that wasn't the case on this extremely unlucky day for the Proteas.

England Women did not wish to spend a lot of time during the chase as both openers managed to unleash their free, shot-making abilities. Marizanne Kapp was able to produce some trouble for the English opening pair with some vicious movement, an LBW shout was also sent upstairs, albeit unsuccessfully.

That definitely got Beaumont thinking as she began shuffling across much more than what was required, demonstrating the lack of decisive action against the guile of Kapp. Later on, it was probably an instance of the Proteas giving an opportunity to their bowlers in understanding what these conditions have to offer. Looking ahead, this game can be a precursor to what can happen to teams on slowish surfaces where there is plenty of assistance for bowlers who are willing to put in the hard yards.

As far as the English batting efforts for this game was concerned, the opening duo of Amy Jones and Beaumont notched up another half century stand to quash any hopes of a scare inflicted by their opposition. They were not afraid to pursue the aerial routes once the finish line was visible. It was also the first 50–plus opening stand in this World Cup, aided by a dropped catch by Masabata Klaas towards the end.
