Rohit Sharma [Player of the Match, Mumbai Indians]: I have got only 4 50s, would have liked more. Good day for us as a team, I understand the importance of the Eliminator and taking the step forward, but another performance that I am proud of. When I play the game, it is about how I can do my best, keeping everything aside, and making sure that I can do the job for my team. After having luck go my way, I knew I had to make the most of it. We knew it was going to be challenging with the dew coming in, and the bowlers did their job. I have played those shots before, and I have found fielders. Some days down the line, you will have luck going your way. It was fabulous from the batting order to get the job done. I have watched him over the years on the other side, but it was nice to be on the same side and have a crack at it. He has a lot of experience batting up the order and never thought like he was playing his first game. It was a good start, we got and capitalised on it.

Hardik Pandya [captain, Mumbai Indians]: At one point in time, the game was even and the ball came well onto the bat in the second innings, but we realised that we needed to hold our nerve here. The way Jonny and Ro batted was amazing. Gleeson coming in and bowling, Jassi being Jassi, everyone held their nerve. I was still a few runs short, but little margins help in games like these, and I wanted to help do that. Whenever you think the game is getting far, just hand him the ball. It is like Mumbai housing prices. When the game is going far, I just need to throw him the ball, and he does the magic stuff. I was just watching the scoreboard, and if we can keep runs towards the end, I have bowlers who can bowl. I saw the situation and gave him the ball and told him to bowl. Ashwani Kumar: Sir the talk was that we had to bowl seeing the conditions as the wicket was flat. I wasn't sure whether I would come in as the impact sub, the situation was such that I came in. I was taking with Paras sir and how the preparations should be. It was all about sticking to the plans. It was just about not bowliny any wide or no ball.

Shubman Gill (Gujarat Titans captain): Yeah definitely we were right in the game. Last three four overs didn't go our way but still a great game of cricket. Never easy if we drop three sitters, it doesn't help. The message was simple, just play the game you want to play and the goal was same for them, to win the game. The wicket did become a bit easy for us. Lot of positives for us, last two three games didn't went for us. It was a great season for Sai. 200-210 would have been par on this wicket. Saving those singles and doubles would have made a massive difference.

A proper humdinger as Mumbai Indians pip Gujarat Titans in a playoff game and now have another shot at making it title number six. This is the end of the road for the Gujarat Titans, who will be hurt after this loss and will be reminiscing on their journey so far in the league stages.

Probably where the game tilted early on for the Mumbai Indians in their favour was when they managed to break the partnership between Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan by getting the wicket of the latter. Later on, Kusal Mendis, who was batting in fine nick, accidentally stepped onto his stumps and lost his wicket, which saw GT further pegged back in a tall chase.

But Sai Sudharsan continued to bat along and got going alongside Washington Sundar. The two put on a fine partnership in the middle, and with the way they were batting, it looked like the contest was slipping away from Mumbai. Enter Jasprit Bumrah, a wizard with the ball in hand, and strikes with a yorker that floors Sundar. Then, wickets fell at regular intervals, and some good death bowling in the end saw MI emerge on top, ending a tense chase in a fine manner.

MI had valuable contributions with the ball in hand throughout the innings. Mitchell Santner chipped in with a wicket, so did Ashwani Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, and Richard Gleeson. Trent Boult was the most expensive bowler in the MI camp and despite going for runs in the day, he was very masterful and managed to prize two key wickets in the game that helped MI edge GT to go on and live to see another day.
