Shikhar Dhawan collects the trophy and lets out a wide grin. He's ever-smiling that man, isn't he? The trophy is handed over to the uncapped Mukesh Kumar who holds it aloft as this young Indian brigade bask in the glory of a superlative series triumph. They weren't the favorites coming into this series, mind you, despite playing at home. This was a top-class South African unit they were up against but how well they've performed to make a statement and stake a claim for permanent honors once the A-listers return.

As for the Proteas, they simply had to keep winning but alas, they haven't been able to. They will head to the T20 World Cup and shift their attention towards that event, but they will know that their chances of directly qualifying for the 50-over World Cup next year hangs by a thread now.

Shikhar Dhawan (Captain, India): Very very proud of the boys and the way they've played in the series. They're all young boys and the way they carried responsibility and showed maturity was amazing. At the same time I'd like to thank the support staff. They created a great environment for the boys to express themselves. The way we showed character at the end of that (first) game was amazing. We didn't field well there but we got better in the next game. We never put too much pressure on ourselves after being 1-0 down. For us it's all about the process and if we do that correctly the rest will take care of themselves. I'm enjoying my journey - I would still love to perform consistently for whichever team I play. This series I couldn't perform but I'm happy that all the young boys performed well. The wickets weren't easy for batting either. They all had something in it except the last game where it got better with the dew. Credit goes to the batting unit and bowling unit, especially the bowlers who bowled really well today.

Mohammad Siraj has been adjudged the Player of the Series for his 5 wickets in the series! Here's what he has to say: Thanks to god first. On this platform against a quality side like South Africa, I'm happy to have done well. I always try to give my 100%, have that responsibility as well. With the new ball, I always see what lines and lengths to bowl with the swing on offer. Aggression is important for a pace bowler.

Kuldeep Yadav is the Player of the Match for his superb spell of 4/18. Here's what he has to say: I'm feeling very happy to be here, getting the Man of the Match in an international for the first time after getting injured. My rhythm is perfect and the wicket was perfect for me too. I'm enjoying my bowling. I'm not thinking much about the result, just focusing on my process. One thing I'm mainly focusing on is my rhythm. During the IPL as well I was just (focusing on) the rhythm. Not thinking ahead - just going to play some T20 games in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. That's my target - to go there and perform.

David Miller (Captain, South Africa): It was a tough wicket, didn't help scoring a hundred, any game, disappointing result to finish off a series like that. Was a bit two paced, skidding on a bit, turn as well which is no excuse at all, conditions batting first, was raining last night and under the covers was a bit tacky. Think really good at certain areas, in the one-day cricket we haven't been great like we've played good cricket for longer period of time in T20I's and Tests but one-day need to extend that and do well in that part.

Shubman Gill: Definitely quite disappointed with the way I got out but the way we came back in the series was special. Especially the way the bowlers bowled was great. It was a really pleasing series for us. There were a lot of young players who handled the pressure well after the first match. The way we came back in Ranchi showed the character we have. The talk was just to express ourselves and trust the process. Doesn't matter what the result is. In the team meetings we were talking about just trusting the process and play the way we've been playing. Exciting times for us with the 50-over Asia Cup coming up and a lot of one-day series coming up. And a World Cup in India is very special.

Not a foot that was put wrong by the Indians today. From start to finish, it was a one-way show. And it was always going to be their game after a collective performance with the ball saw them roll the Proteas over for a mere 99.

It was Ishan Kishan who butchered the South African bowlers, helping India get to the target of 279 in the previous one-day international, and it was Shubman Gill who provided us with some truly, truly, butter-like smooth strokeplay, albeit chasing a much lesser target today! The common factor among the two innings were the fact that both the batters failed to get to a landmark by a meagre margin, while Ishan holed out for 93 on Sunday, Gill was pinned right in front one short of a deserved half-century!

Despite the pace and bounce-heavy South African pace attack, a target of 100 was never going to deter the Indian top-order, especially with the kind of form they are in. Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill ensured that the majority of the task didn't even need to fall on the top-order, as the duo got India off to a solid start with a 42-run opening partnership in the opening six overs. Dhawan was merely playing second fiddle to Gill, who, despite the South African bowlers' best effort to bounce him out, unleased an array of strokes of the highest order!

After Dhawan was run out in casual fashion, Kishan came in and started to make merry along with Gill, but his stay was curtailed after he drove at one away from his body and got a faint tickle to de Kock behind the stumps. It was up to Shreyas Iyer once again to see India through, and so he did. His problems against the short ball were on exhibition for a bit, particularly against Anrich Nortje, but that didn't deter him from piling up the runs along with Gill.

Just like in the previous game, it was Iyer who hit the winning runs, and he went two better this time, lofting Marco Jansen over the ropes at long-off to seal the series win! Presentation coming up in a few moments....

Shubman Gill couldn't finish it, but it's equally poetic that India's standout batter this series, Shreyas Iyer, has the final say in the rubber. A stunning blow and it draws the curtains down on this contest that has collectively lasted 46.2 overs. India wrap up a 7-wicket win with over 30 overs to spare and clinch the series 2-1!

19.1 Marco Jansen to Shreyas Iyer, SIX! FINISHES THINGS IN STYLE! India take the series 2-1, what a clinical performance this from the hosts. Picks the slower one beautifully, back of a length on the outside off, Iyer DISPATCHED it high and handsome over long-off for a maximum.

We enter the 20th over of the contest. The inevitable has been delayed but not too long now. Got to feel for Shubman Gill though - he was in such pristine touch all innings and deserved a fifty.
