Deep Dasgupta says, "It's a moving day. Day 1 we said, it was a good test match pitch". Daren Ganga reckons, "We saw three hundreds on Day 2, those three centurions negotiated some demons on the pitch. Sundar and Jadeja will extract some turn and bounce from that good length area where there are patches starting to appear. KL Rahul played a brilliant innings, very assured coming forward. Commentary

An early finish in Ahmedabad as India wrap things up with a decimating win and kick start their home season with a bang. They have also earned themselves a couple of extra rest days as a result of this performance. The second test will commence on October 10 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. India would be going their brimming with confidence and are expected to complete a clean sweep. For the West Indies, they need to turn it around in a huge manner both with the bat as well as the ball if they are to even put up a fight. Ravindra Jadeja has been adjudged as the Player of the Match for his all-round performance (104* with the bat & 4 wickets in the second innings), here are his words: "I have been working hard on my batting. We had two months off, I worked on my fitness. I went to the Center of Excellence in Bengaluru and worked on my fitness and skills. I have batted and number 9 or 8 few years ago but now I have got my number 6. I have time to prepare myself and pace my innings, no need for unnecessary shots, I can take my time. Playing on red soil is alwasy fun, as a spinner you get more turn and bounce. For batting as well as bowling, can get runs if the wicket is flat and can get wickets as well. I would like to thank the coach, captain, selectors and management (for being nominated as the vice-captain). If the team needs any kind of suggestions or advice, I am there. I'm still not the captain (of the spin department), Ash was there. Kuldeep and Washi have played quite a few matches, everyone has experience and are working hard. No need to give unnecessary advice."

Shubman Gill (India captain): "(About the toss) Six losses in a row. But as long as we keep winning matches, it does not matter. Perfect game for us. Three centurians. We were good in the field too. No complains. (On his own batting) Whenever you get a start, you want to convert it into a big one. The pitch was good but could not convert it. (About problem of plenty with regards to the bowling options) It is good to have too many options rather than not having options. But that's the fun of playing in India. There will always be someone who will step up. (On his learnings as the captain) There is so much to learn. Had to pin down one thing. We are still a learning side. As long as we keep learning, it should be good."

Roston Chase (West Indies Captain): "When you win the toss and bat first and get bowled out for 160, it is going to be tough to come back from there. Then they batted and put a lot of runs, not a performance we were looking at. We have to bat better, specially in India in the first innings with the ball spinning going into the fourth and fifth day. No problem with the decision (at the toss). Everyone wanted to bat first, there was moisture but this is test cricket and it is up to the batter to bat past the moisture. I don't think the timing was off (taking the second new ball), I thought when we took it we did not make the batsman play enough, got to challenge the batsmen's technique a bit more and challenge the stumps. The batting is the main problem, you only have two batsmen out there at a time. In the field you have all the eleven players out there so it is a bit easier. Just for the batsman out there to form the partnerships, we did not get even a 50-run partnership. In cricket, it is partnerships whether you're batting or bowling. We need to string some partnerships with the bat."

Mohammed Siraj: "I feel very good. It is really hot out here. But the bowling department and the batting department both contributed. Really enjoyed it. The wicket slowed up in the second innings. So even 3 wickets felt like 5 wickets. Everyone took responsibility with the bat. So, that was good."

Absolute annihilation in Ahmedabad and India are back to winning ways at home. This is the third-largest win for India over West Indies in tests.

This is what we call a proper no-contest, the fact that the West Indies could not bat an entire day across the two innings, only 89.2 overs for them to lose all 20 wickets is a telling fact in itself. Against a strong Indian side like this, you are always going to be blown away if you put up such a poor performance. India take less than 8 sessions to wrap up proceedings at claim a 1-0 lead in this 2-match series.

West Indies had the rub of the green go their way when they won the toss on the first morning and got an opportunity to bat first. However, the game was lost for them in the first session itself when Siraj ran through their top and middle order and the visitors lost 5 wickets in the first session on Day 1. There was no coming back from there, West Indies were skittled out in the second session with Siraj and Bumrah sharing 7 wickets among themselves as the West Indies batters failed to showcase any application Along with Siraj's brilliance with the new ball, Bumrah's lethal yorkers with the reversing old ball were a highlight in the first innings..

India got the chance to put the foot on the throat and they did not relent. As many as three centuries with the bat in the first innings for India, an 11th test ton for KL Rahul, first one in India since 2016, a maiden test century for Dhruv Jurel and Ravindra Jadeja continuing his purple patch with the bat notching up his 6th test century as India piled on the misery. Shubman Gill also notched up a fifty but missed out on a big score. India were 448/6 at the end of Day 2 with a lead of 286 and they pulled the plug on their batting innings overnight.

In the second innings with the bat for West Indies, it was the same old story once more sadly. Once again they lost five in a session, this time on the morning of the third day. Siraj struck first once more before it was the turn of Jadeja to join in with the ball. The sixth wicket partnership between Athanaze and Greaves was the only shining light for West Indies, a partnership which added 46 but as soon as that was broken by Sundar it was only a matter of time. Jadeja finished with four in the second innings, Siraj got 3 as well taking him to a total of 7 wickets in the match which is his highest in India while Kuldeep finished it off with the final wicket and one earlier in the innings.

Handshakes all around, this is as dominant as they come in Test cricket. India outplaying West Indies in all three facets of the game and comprehensively so, this is a thumping start for the home season for India, could not have asked for anything better.
