3:51 PM local time (8:21 PM IST): Match Abandoned! The rain hasn't relented, and the umpires have finally decided to call the game off. The covers are staying on, and there will be no play today. The series remains 1-0 in favour of England, who will have to wait until the final T20I to try and seal the series.
3:46 PM local time (8:16 PM IST): It is still pretty overcast and the covers are still very much in place. The ground staff continue their work but the question is, are we running out of time? A few England players are seen strolling around in their warm-up kits. So, let's see what unfolds.
3:25 PM local time (7:55 PM IST): The rain has certainly eased. The umpires are doing the rounds, assessing the conditions. The ground staff is working extremely hard to dry the ground and get it ready for play. It is a battle against time of course, but we stay hopeful!
3:15 PM local time (7:45 PM IST): The Super Sopper is at work, finally! The ground staff are out in the middle to do the mopping up work. Some of the covers are being moved too. So this is encouraging news!
3:05 PM local time (7:35 PM IST): The umbrellas are still out. And if they aren't, it means the jackets in place with the hoods on! The way things are, we many not get double-digit overs in. But, we are still hopeful of some play.
Kumar: "We should start building stadiums with retractable roofs, like in tennis" The age-old debate! It's an interesting thought, but cricket grounds are so much bigger than a tennis court. It would be a huge and incredibly expensive undertaking.
Amar: "I just hope we get a game. Even a shortened one. A no-result would be a real dampener, especially after how good the first match was." Couldn't agree more. Let's keep our fingers crossed.
2:55 PM local time (7:25 PM IST): There hasn't been much movement in and around the ground and the covers have stayed put for the last half-an-hour at least. So, the delay due to rain continues, friends.
Saransh: "I'd love to see Adil Rashid get a fifer today" At this moment, we'd just like to see the match happen.
2:25 PM local time (6:55 PM IST): The waiting game continues for all of us, friends! The covers are firmly on the entire square and the rain is persistent. The crowd hasn't left yet and our hopes haven't been dashed either. But then, we have to hope for the best. We will let you know of the next update as and when it comes.
1:36 PM local time (6:06 PM IST): The next inspection to happen when the rain stops!
1:29 PM local time (5:59 PM IST): Unfortunate news coming in from the middle. The ground staff have brought the covers back on. The fans are opening up their umbrellas too, so we're in for another frustrating delay. We'll keep you posted as soon as we have any more news on a potential start time.
England's Luke Wood is up for a chat now: "It was a high-scoring game, the first one. But Ireland batted well. Obviously, Phil Salt and Jos Buttler took things to another level. It was nice to see and assess the ground and its dimensions, the crowd here is quite close to the action, so, it was fun playing here! As a touring team, it's always nice to experience so many things."
We are up for a chat now with Ireland's Lorcan Tucker: "First game of the series and it was perfect as a build-up to the T20 World Cup. The power game in this format is important, so is the rotation of strike. They came out and blew us away in the power play. So, if we can take wickets up front, it will help us today."
