That's all for today's match! A fantastic performance from the Superchargers sees them take a massive win. Thanks for joining us for all the action. From all of us here at Sportskeeda, this is Meeth Agrawal and Sourabh Agrawal signing off. We'll be ready and waiting for all the excitement of tomorrow's double-header.
Adil Rashid has been awarded as the Match Hero for his 2/26, here are his words -
We played exceptionally well, we put a brilliant score on the board for the bowlers to do their job. We got some world-class players all the way, even the likes of Miller who didn't even get in today. For myself it was simple, try to use my variations. I know they are looking for fours and sixes, luckily it worked for me today . You're always learning everyday, think you're always learning till you hang up your boots and I hope I keep learning.
9:16 PM Local Time, 1:46 AM IST: Northern Supercharges win by 36 runs!
Dawid Malan - 58 (34) | Matthew Potts - 3/26 Jacob Bethell - 48 (23) | Chris Wood - 2/34
Well, there it is! A massive win by 36 runs for the Northern Superchargers, and what a statement it is. They go top of the table with three wins from their four outings, and frankly, they were absolutely sensational in all three departments today.
I mean, where do you even begin with that first innings? An all-round batting effort that was just… unreal. The platform was laid by the openers, with Zak Crawley absolutely tearing into Trent Boult to finish the powerplay on a high. And then there was Dawid Malan, so calm and clinical, who went on to score a brilliant half-century. And, of course, the captain, Harry Brook, with his vintage, unorthodox hitting powered them to a final total of 193 for 5. The highest total of the season, and boy did it look intimidating.
When the Phoenix came out to bat, it looked like it was game over from the get-go. The new ball bowlers, Matthew Potts and Jacob Duffy, were on fire, taking three early wickets to leave the Phoenix in deep trouble. But just when you thought all hope was lost, the comeback began. Liam Livingstone and Jacob Bethell stitched together a sensational partnership of 80 runs.
But that's where the story ends for them, sadly. Just as the momentum was shifting, the Superchargers' best players stepped up. Adil Rashid got his revenge, dismissing Bethell with a brilliant caught-and-bowled just before he could get his fifty. And then, who else but Rashid again to get the big fish, Livingstone. The wickets just kept tumbling after that. Potts finished with a superb three-wicket haul, and Lawes, Duffy, and Rashid all grabbed two wickets each.
A truly exceptional performance from the Superchargers from start to finish. A deserved win for them. The Birmingham Phoenix now have a lot to think about, sitting at the bottom of the table.
20.0
19.5 Jacob Duffy to Chris Wood, Northern Superchargers win by 36 runs and move to the top of the points table. Another yorker fired in and Wood could do nothing about it, swung past it and it went through to the keeper past the leg stump. A comprehensive night for the home side.
Chris Wood batting at 11th position
Tim Southee has been dismissed for 8 runs off 5 balls
19.4 Jacob Duffy to Tim Southee, THAT IS STONE DEAD, Southee reviews but he knows his fate. A full one fired in at the middle stump, Southee had his front leg going somewhere else and the back leg going elsewhere as he attempted a ugly hoick and missed it. That is smashing the middle of the middle stump, Southee was back into the dugout by the time the replays came up.
19.3 Jacob Duffy to Tim Southee, back to the slower one outside off, back to swinging and missing from Southee
19.2 Jacob Duffy to Tim Southee, INTO THE WESTIN TERRACE. We know Southee can hit those sixes, clears his front leg and plants his countryman into the mid-wicket stand. Was a shortish delivery
19.1 Jacob Duffy to Tim Southee, slower one outside off, Southee does not pick it at all and ends up missing it
Jacob Duffy to bowl the final set of the match. Just a formality here.
19.0
18.5 Matthew Potts to Trent Boult, slower one at the stumps, Boult makes room and hacks, only gets a small inside edge for a single
18.4 Matthew Potts to Trent Boult, a fiery yorker that beats Boult on the inside and goes past the leg stump, has Boult amused as well
Trent Boult batting at 10th position
Adam Milne has been dismissed for 9 runs off 5 balls
18.3 Matthew Potts to Adam Milne, ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST, this time it settles in the gloves of Pepper. Short ball which was too good for Milne, it induced a top edge and Pepper took a couple of steps behind him before pouching it.
18.2 Matthew Potts to Adam Milne, slower delivery, Milne pats that back to the bowler and the crowd thinks it is a catch
18.1 Matthew Potts to Adam Milne, SLICED ALL THE WAY, that is handy when you need 5 runs per ball. Full and wide outside off, Milne throws his bat at it and he gets it off the outer half but enough to get it all the way
