That's all from this game as I, Lavil Saldanha, take your leave. Keep following Sportskeeda for the latest in the world of sports. SEE YA!
Glenn Maxwell (captain, WF): Very happy, I think anytime we chase 220, you’ll be happy. We needed something special, and two guys in the top four got the job done. Hoping this knock gives Andries the confidence going forward. It is about executing your plans, and we were a bit off with it. 4-1 in the tournament, and to play a perfect game is something that we will strive towards. Stoin and I have a long history of playing together, and it was good fun. He was using my shot against me, and we had a good laugh about it. Nice to get him out now, but hopefully he has a good time ahead
Mitchell Owen (Player of the Match, WF): It's good fun, I struggled in the first 15-20 balls, and then I went about it. I said to Ricky at the timeout that I couldn’t get going properly, with the wind blowing on one side of the ground. It is quite simple, the red soil is different, and with Andries Gous at the other end, getting 80 odd, I hope he has the same form in the latter end of the tournament. I was quite lucky, got 3 wickets off half volleys and was dropped twice. Trying to stick to the processes, it is about enjoying on the field and trying and hit the ball clean. It is all about taking it simple
Faf du Plessis (captain, TSK): We got a lot of things right, and it got better as the game went on. We hung in there nicely. The first innings felt a bit limited. You need a big total here. Savage is injured, unfortunately, he is the best guy to sneak in two overs here. We didn’t do a lot of wrong today, but a few dropped chances off Owen on this pitch cost us. You see the year-by-year progression of the local boys; they feel like they belong here
10:50 PM local time, 9:20 AM IST: Washington Freedom win by 7 wickets
Washington Freedom: 223/2 (19.4 overs) Mitchell Owen: 89(52b) | Adam Milne: 3/42 (4 overs) Andries Gous: 80(45b)*
What a chase this is from the Washington Freedom. They never looked out of the game, despite a very circumspect start, but they have done a fine job of batting out the game and ensuring the rewrite history the way they know it the best. This will give them confidence, and they will want to go on and chase any score put ahead of them from here on in the league.
Usual suspects Rachin Ravindra and Mitchell Owen walked out to open the batting. Owen got off to a flyer and so did Rachin, but some good bowling in the last 18 deliveries of that phase saw the run rate drop. Soon after, Andries Gous joined Owen in what was his 100th T20. He made the occasion count as he and Owen played well-paced knocks and ensured the target was always in reach. In the end, Glenn Phillips managed to squeeze past the man at point to help them deliver their 4th win of the season.
As for TSK, every bowler used by Faf du Plessis took a beating. It was a one-man show in the wickets column as only Adam Milne picked up the wickets to fall. Noor Ahmad, Donnovan Ferrerira, Nandre Burger, and Marcu Stoinis all went for plenty, with Noor Ahmad once again being taken to the cleaners in this game. They have been without a win against Washington Freedom in their last few games and continue to be winless against them.
Let's now go down to hear what the captains and the Players of the Match have to say
19.4 Marcus Stoinis to Glenn Phillips, FOUR! FREEDOM SCRIPT HISTORY WITH THIS WIN! Full and outside the off stump.
