02:09 (IST)3 AUG 2022

That then, brings us to the close of Day 5 events! A rather fruitful day for India overall, with two gold medals coming in one each from a historic Lawn Bowls Women's Fours event and the other courtesy of the men's table tennis team winning the final over Singapore.

The Indian mixed badminton team had to settle for silver after a 1-3 loss to Malaysia in the summit clash, adding to another silver medal weightlifter Vikas Thakur won earlier in the evening. There were quite a few disappointments too, as the likes of Dutee Chand, Navjeet Kaur Dhillon and Seema Punia all failed to put on a good show.

However, we have a lot of action to look forward to on Day 6 as M Sreeshankar and MA Yahiya qualified for the men's long jump final, and with a whole lot of individual events taking place soon, there's no shortage of sport to come our way!

Until tomorrow then, that's it from all of us at Sportskeeda! We've had a great time bringing you all the LIVE updates, and we'll be back again tomorrow around 1 PM IST for commentary, news and updates from Day 6. Until then, on behalf of my co-blogger Mohamed Farzan, this is me Prasen Moudgal signing off! Take care!

BADMINTON: Indian mixed team finishes with SILVER!

Malaysia put up quite a show in the final to register a 3-1 win and clinch the top honours!

The last do-or-die match for India featured Treesa Jolly/Gayatri Gopichand featuring in the doubles clash - but they lost 18-21, 17-21 against Tan Koong Le/Thinaah Muralitharan.

Women's Discus Throw final [6th and last throw]

Both India discus throwers finish outside the medal positions.

Seema Punia finishes in 5th place,
a rather disappointing end to what was a promising start for the 2018 CWG silver medalist.

Navjeet Kaur finishes 8th
with a very sub par performance, her best throw came in her last attempt, a 53.51m hurl but that's not enough to get her anywhere close to the medals.

01:43 (IST)3 AUG 2022

Women's Discus Throw Final [5th attempt]

No improvement yet from Navjeet Dhillon, she does better than her 4th attempt with a 52.46m throw, but she's stuck in plumb last position with her best throw of 53.14m so far.

Before Seema even steps in for her 5th attempt, she's dropped down to 5th place! Yet again, Seema fails to get her direction right, and the disc flies out of bounds. One last attempt left for Seema to claim one of those medal spots.

01:34 (IST)3 AUG 2022

Women's Discus Throw Final [4th attempt]

Navjeet Kaur Dhillon steps up for her 4th attempt - first inside the top 8 - and she fails to impress. Just 52.21m.

Seema Punia loses her radar on the 4th attempt, looks like the discus slipped out of her hands in the last second and it flies out of bounds.

Punia has also slipped down to 4th, she will need to throw beyond 56.42m to get back into the medal positions.

01:32 (IST)3 AUG 2022

BADMINTON: India vs Malaysia Mixed Team Final

Malaysia lead 2-1; Treesa/Gayatri lose the first game in the 4th match by a 21-18 margin

The young India duo did well to test Tan Koong/Muralitharan late in the game by reducing a 4-point deficit to a solitary point, but the Malaysians hold onto their slender lead and pocket the first game. If India lose the next game, they will be forced to settle for a silver medal.

01:29 (IST)3 AUG 2022

Women's Discus Throw Final

Seema Punia and Navjot Kaur Dhillon make the Top 8!

Punia's last throw was a modest 52.30m, but her best throw of 55.92m in the second attempt is enough to keep her in 3rd place!

Navjot, on the other hand, has just about sneaked into the top eight with a best throw of 53.14m. Her first throw was 50.95m, and in her third attempt, she stepped out of the circle after barely crossing 50m.

01:12 (IST)3 AUG 2022

Women's Discus Throw Final

Seema Punia makes a massive improvement on her 2nd attempt as she registers 55.92m. Her first attempt was 52.28m.

Navjot Kaur too follows suit, betters her first throw in her second attempt with 53.14m.

00:54 (IST)3 AUG 2022

BADMINTON: India vs Malaysia - Mixed Team final

India 1 - 1 Malaysia; Kidambi Srikanth levels scores in the 3rd match with a 21-6 dominating game win!

Yong had absolutely no avenues to score points throughout the game as Srikanth had an answer to every small challenge Yong posed. This match is going all the way down to the last game!

00:30 (IST)3 AUG 2022

WEIGHTLIFTING - Women's 87kg Final

23:42 (IST)2 AUG 2022

India's Usha Bannur Natesh Kumara will be in action in a few minutes. She'll lift 90kg in her 1st Snatch attempt. And yes, she lifts 90kg with ease and will look to lift heavier weights in her next couple of attempts.

23:25 (IST)2 AUG 2022

BADMINTON: India vs Malaysia - Mixed Team final

Malaysia lead 1-0; PV Sindhu wins opening game of Match 2 by 22-20 margin

Sindhu made to stretch and grind every point of the opening game by Goh Jin Wei, who did remarkably well to play the angles and give the Indian star a tough time on court. At one stage, Sindhu was cruising at 18-12 before Goh made a crushing comeback, even taking a slender lead at 19-18. However, Sindhu, with frustration as her motivation unfurled the smashes and eventually sealed the game.

23:06 (IST)2 AUG 2022

LAWN BOWLS

Men's Fours: India vs Fiji - India win 14-11
Women's Triples: India vs England - India lose 11-24

A commanding performance from the Men's Fours team to constant keep the points board ticking and keep Fiji at bay. At one stage, India trailed 1-6, but a 3-point effort after Round 6 instilled confidence back in the team, from where there was no looking back.

As for the women's team, it was quite opposite in nature, for there were pockets of play when they barely scored a point. England, on the other hand, picked up 2 or more points on multiple occasions, keeping pressure on the Indians throughout the contest.

22:38 (IST)2 AUG 2022

India take a 2-1 lead in the final as Sathiyan Gnanasekaran wins 12-10, 7-11, 11-7, 11-4 in Match 3!

If temperament and the abundance of it ever needed to be explained as  personal trait, there's never a need to look beyond Sathiyan! Koen Pang kept challenging him with attack after attack, but for Sathiyan - who is the best advocate of attack is the best form of defence - it was about persevering through the hard points to get through in the end!
