Darren Till and Khamzat Chimaev struck up one of the most unexpected friendships in MMA earlier this year when the pair began training together. 'The Gorilla' traveled to Sweden and trained alongside 'Borz' at the Allstars Training Center.

The pair have been friends and close training partners since the beginning of 2022, and Till has appeared in Chimaev's corner in a number of his recent fights.

Given their close relationship, 'The Gorilla' was asked by journalist Oscar Willis at the UFC 282 pre-fight press conference how a potential bout between Chimaev and the polarizing Colby Covington would play out.

Darren Till stated:

"I think that's a very good fight, I do, 'cause people don't see a lot of Colby in the media but I know he's a guy who in secret trains really f***ing hard. If them two fight, I think Khamzat would be... I think he'd overpower him. I believe [Chimaev's] striking is better and I think when it comes to the wrestling, he'd be the powerful one."

Khamzat Chimaev missed weight in his previous fight at welterweight by 7.5lbs at UFC 279, causing some people to question his eligibility at 170lbs. However, Dana White has stated that he will give 'Borz' one more chance to prove he can make the division's weight limit.

Darren Till reflects on back-to-back losses and still believes he is "elite"

Darren Till has been a mainstay in the UFC since the age of 22 but has recently endured the most difficult period of his professional career.

'The Gorilla' has lost his last two fights against top middleweight contenders Derek Brunson and Robert Whittaker. But considering his age, pundits such as Michael Bisping are fully confident that the Scouser will turn things around.

UFC 282 will be Darren Till's first opportunity to get his career back on track when he faces Dricus Du Plessis. 'The Gorilla' was interviewed by Mike Bohn of MMA Junkie, where he looked back on his last two defeats:

"Just a little bit of the downs and lows, you know about it all. But it's hard to explain what a fighter thinks about after stuff like this and obviously when he's on a high. I have fought the best fighters there are to fight in the world. So does that put me at the elite? Yes it does. You get beat, are you still elite? Of course, but you get beaten. That's how it is."
