Ahead of his title fight against Khalil Rountree Jr. at UFC 307 on Oct. 5, Pereira was interviewed by ESPN MMA and asked to create his perfect UFC fighter.

The reigning champion chose himself for striking, then chose his close friend Glover Teixeira for grappling. Pereira went on to choose UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones for his chin and finally for the on-mic personality, 'Poatan' chose McGregor.

Pereira is set to compete for the third time this year, defending his light heavyweight title against Khalil Rountree Jr. this Saturday at UFC 307. Before this, the 37-year-old served as a savior for the organization by defending his title twice on short notice against Jamahal Hill and Jiri Prochazka at UFC 300 and UFC 303, respectively.

As for McGregor, he was set to make his highly anticipated octagon comeback in a welterweight showdown against Michael Chandler at UFC 303, however, a toe injury sustained during training forced the Irishman to withdraw from the bout. UFC CEO Dana White expects the former two-division champion to return next year.

Israel Adesanya discusses Alex Pereira vs. Khalil Rountree Jr. matchup

Alex Pereira's longtime rival Israel Adesanya recently gave his take on the Brazilian's upcoming title fight against Khalil Rountree Jr. at UFC 307.

During his appearance on The Adam Carolla Show, Adesanya picked Pereira to win, citing his past encounters with 'Poatan.' He said:

''I'll go [Alex] Pereira because momentum right now. Also, I just know [Khalil] Rountree doesn't grapple. He likes to kickbox. He's never gone for a takedown and I'm like, if you're going to do that with Pereira, there's one person who - I mean, I'm the only one who's ever even rocked him or stood with him in the UFC...I'm going to go Pereira and I'm going to go TKO or KO. I don't know what round, but I just feel like it'll be hard for Rountree to get past his frame."
