Danial Williams likes his chances of besting ‘The Kicking Machine’ Superlek Kiatmoo9 in their short-notice ONE world title main event this Friday night.

Originally expected to face Rui Botelho at ONE Fight Night 8 on Prime Video, ‘Mini T’ got the call that Superlek’s original opponent Rodtang Jitmuangnon had withdrawn himself from the bout due to an injury, opening the door for Williams to score his first ONE world championship.

Considering the short-notice nature of the bout and the fact that Danial Williams will be moving up a full weight class to take advantage of the opportunity, ‘Mini T’ believes that all of the pressure is on his opponent. Williams also suggested that his skill set could prove to be the perfect recipe to end Superlek’s ONE flyweight kickboxing world championship reign:

“I think Superlek is a real traditional Thai [striker]. I know what to expect from him. He has a really heavy base and power shots. But because I feel like he has a really traditional Thai style and it’s kickboxing rules, I think I’ve got a really, really good chance.”

While Danial Williams has kickboxing experience outside of ONE Championship, the Australian-Thai fighter has never strapped on the 8oz gloves inside the circle. It’s just one more thing that will be working against ‘Mini-T’ when he steps into the circle this Friday night, but when the promotion calls with a title opportunity, you take it no matter the circumstances.

You never know if or when a shot like this will come along again.

Danial Williams is going to enjoy his moment in the spotlight no matter the outcome

Typically, a ONE world title fight has both fighters, the champion, and the challenger, feeling a little anxious in the days and hours leading up to the high-stakes showdown. But for Danial Williams, he’s not feeling any of that. He’s feeling as confident as ever and intends on enjoying the moment, no matter what happens:

“I’m super confident about the fight and the pressure’s off because I’m going to embrace this week and I’m just going to go for it. I feel like I’ve sort of manifested things like this, so I’ve just got to make the most of it.”

‘Mini-T’ may be on to something in regards to manifesting things. Throughout his camp leading up to ONE Fight Night 8, Williams admitted to fantasizing about stepping into the bout should one of the two originally scheduled combatants withdraw. As it turns out, that’s exactly what happened:

“I’ll be completely honest. Through this whole camp I was like, ‘Oh, Rodtang and Superlek are on the card. If one of them pulls out, I’m gonna jump straight in there, that would be awesome.’ I was sort of fantasizing about that.”

Amazon Prime Video subscribers in North America can catch Superlek vs. Williams live and for free in U.S. primetime this Friday night.
