At ONE on Prime Video 3, Fabricio Andrade put on an impressive performance against John Lineker. Despite dominating the majority of the contest, Andrade came away from the fight without the ONE bantamweight world championship and without a win on his record.

After hurting Lineker with his signature knee to the body, Andrade chased after the finish and landed an accidental follow-up knee to the groin of his opponent. After a few minutes of a recovery period, the former champion couldn’t continue, and the fight was declared a no-contest.

‘Wonder Boy’ did leave the circle with some takeaways, gaining a lot of respect from the fans and the knowledge that everything he predicted in the lead-up to the fight came true. In an interview with The MMA Superfan, Andrade shared his disappointment at the way the fight ended, despite now calling himself the uncrowned bantamweight world champion:

“I know I was winning the fight but it doesn’t feel like I’m the winner because I didn’t get the win, I didn’t get the belt, I didn’t get anything. So I’m still on the same position that I was before.”

The score will be settled between the two Brazilians at ONE on Prime Video 7. After John Lineker was stripped off his world title on the scales ahead of their first fight, the vacant world championship will be on the line on February 10, 2023.

“I did everything right” - Fabricio Andrade looks back on near-flawless performance against John Lineker

After seemingly being moments away from accomplishing his dream and becoming a world champion, it was all gone in a flash for Fabricio Andrade.

At ONE on Prime Video 3, ‘Wonder Boy’ was the only man eligible to walk away with the world championship after Lineker missed weight and was stripped off the title. His performance would’ve justified the world championship as Fabricio Andrade delivered on the hype. The fight itself also delivered on the expectations of the fans, with the two Brazilians going back and forth, landing big shots.

Andrade’s precision striking was proving to be the difference maker, stopping Lineker from implementing his relentless pressure style. It was a great performance from ‘Wonder Boy’ that was brought to an unexpected and unfortunate end.

In an interview with ONE Championship, Andrade spoke about his preparations for the fight and his analysis of his performance at ONE on Prime Video 3:

“I trained a lot, worked a lot, and sacrificed a lot to get in my best shape. I made weight, I did everything right, I was winning the fight, almost knocking him out, and the fight ended like that. From a near knockout to a no-contest, it was very frustrating. I was very sad with the result of the fight.”

Fabricio Andrade will get the chance to improve upon his performance in their rematch at ONE on Prime Video 7 with another shot at the bantamweight world championship.
