Georges St-Pierre return hinted at by ex-UFC fighter in cryptic comments

Former UFC double-champion Georges St-Pierre's potential return to the octagon has been in discussions since he left the octagon. One of the greatest fighters the sport has ever seen, 'GSP' continues to be a dream fight for several current and former UFC stars.

Former UFC welterweight champ Tyron Woodley recently named St-Pierre as his dream opponent. With 'Rush' currently a free agent, TSN's Aaron Bronsteter suggested that a potential return might not entirely be off the cards. Alluding to 'GSP's potential return, Woodley said in a cryptic comment:

"Man I love the Middle East."

'T-Wood' could be hinting at Georges St-Pierre returning for a one-off exhibition bout in Abu Dhabi, which has recently turned into a fight haven. While Woodley considers St-Pierre the greatest welterweight in history, he claims he can beat 'Rush' if given a chance. 'The Chosen One' wrote:

"He was the first and only fighter and the last fighter that his martial arts sold pay-per-views...My dream fight would be to fight Georges St - Pierre in a mixed martial arts fight. That would be my number 1 choice if I had any fight. He is the best welterweight of all time. And I always felt like I could beat him, I never had a chance to show it, never had a chance to prove it and there's not a fighter I respect more than George."

Georges St-Pierre lays down guidelines to plot his potential comeback

Georges St-Pierre last fought at UFC 217 in 2017, returning after a four-year hiatus for a middleweight title bid against Michael Bisping. 'GSP' won via third-round submission but vacated the strap a month later after being diagnosed with ulcerative colitis.

Prior to that, St-Pierre had retired from the sport in 2013, citing rampant PED use by other athletes. While he hasn't fought in over five years, 'Rush' only became a free agent in November 2022. Asked about a potential comeback, 'GSP' claimed that it has to be a well-organized affair with minimum risk of injuries. The 41-year-old told MMA Junkie:

"I could do something, but it needs to be something well organized, and maybe something where the risks of injury are to the minimum, not something that’s too crazy because my days of competing are over. If I do it, I will do it well and train my ass off. You never say never, but it needs to be in the right timing. We’ll see.”
