Glover Teixeira's cornerman John Hackleman has said that he will not corner fights anymore in the future.

Hackleman was in Teixeira's corner for his title fight against Jamahal Hill at UFC 283. In an interview with 'MMA Fighting', Hackleman revealed that he wanted to stop the fight after the third round but was outvoted by the rest of the team.

“I’m a known fight-stopper in between rounds. I’m kind of known for that, maybe a little too much at times. But I thought this was a good time to stop it. I was outvoted in the corner... I’m thankful they didn’t [stop it]. I know this wouldn’t have gone well with anyone. It would have made a lot of people really unhappy, and I don’t want it to be about me. I would have thrown it in after the third. I would have been completely happy with the fight stopping there. I saw no reason for it to go on after that,” said John Hackleman.

Hackleman added that he will be stepping away from cornering duties and focusing on coaching young fighters instead.

Glover Teixeira and Jamahal Hill delivered a thrilling 25-minute contest in the UFC 283 main event, which took place in Teixeira's home country of Brazil. Hill outclassed the Brazilian for the majority of the fight and also set a new record for the most significant strikes (232) landed in a light heavyweight fight.

"Sweet Dreams' emerged victorious via unanimous decision and was declared the new 205-pound king.

Glover Teixeira announced his retirement at UFC 283

After electrifying the crowd present at Jeunesse Arena with an exciting back-and-forth war, Glover Teixeira spoke to Daniel Cormier in his post-fight interview. The Brazilian said that it was hard for him to keep up with the sport and thus, announced his retirement from MMA.

"In reality I think I'm too tough for my own good. Too tough for my own health. You know, I can't keep up anymore... It's an honor to put the gloves down on the same night as Shogun. I wish we were in the Royce Gracie era where we could just go no rounds and keep going in this s**t. But I'm just not keeping up anymore." [via translator]
