Chael Sonnen has once again taken a dig a Jon Jones for failing to promote himself over the last two and a half years. 'The American Gangster' noted that we were hopeful of a Jones vs. Francis Ngannou clash since 'Bones' hinted at a move up to heavyweight.

Sonnen claims to be baffled by the fact that the former UFC light heavyweight champion hasn't created another storyline for himself since. The 45-year-old said on his YouTube channel:

"I have been dumbstruck that in three years Jon Jones hasn't created 'a' storyline. When Jon Jones left three years ago, the big hope that we all had was that it'd be Jones vs. Ngannou. Just reminding you... Here we are three years later and we still have that hope that it'd be Jones vs. Ngannou."

Sonnen believes that Jones could have been in a different position today had he called out other top heavyweight contenders:

"He's done absolutely nothing. But imagine what he could have done. And imagine the spot that he would be in. He could be lobbying grenades at Ciryl Gane. He could be lobbying them at Curtis Blaydes, he could be throwing them at Tom Aspinall."

Jon Jones blames Stipe Miocic for hold up of potential UFC 282 clash

Jon Jones was initially expected to fight Francis Ngannou in his heavyweight debut. However, with Ngannou embroiled in a contract dispute and rehabbing from knee surgery, 'Bones' has since shifted his focus to Stipe Miocic.

The former UFC light-heavyweight champion has been linked to a potential main-event clash against Stipe Miocic at UFC 282, scheduled for December 10. However, the matchup now seems doubtful with the announcement of a light heavyweight title clash between Jiri Prochazka and Glover Teixeira on the same card.

Jones has now blamed Miocic for the hold-up and insists that he is ready to go on December 10. The 35-year-old wrote:

"I’m preparing to fight Stipe December 10 in Las Vegas. Not really sure what’s going on between Stipe and the UFC but I’m ready to compete! I’m going to control what I can and stay in shape."

Challenging Miocic to sign the contract, Jones wrote more recently:

"I’m bringing all the heat @Stipemiocic, I got that fire you could never put out. Sign the contract #Ufc282"
