Before starting his career as an MMA fighter, Greg Hardy used to play in the National Football League (NFL). The 34-year-old was picked up by the Carolina Panthers during the sixth round of the 2010 NFL draft.

During the nearly five-year stint with the Carolina Panthers, Greg Hardy played 62 games with the team. The former UFC fighter scored 144 solo tackles, 59 assists and 34 sacks during that time period. 2013 was his best year as he scored a single-game team record of four sacks and an all-season team-record of 15 sacks for the Panthers. This feat earned Hardy a place in the 2013 All-Pro second team and also helped him secure the 53rd spot on the 'NFL Top 100' list for the 2013 season.

In 2014, Hardy had run-ins with the law as he was arrested on charges of domestic violence against his then-girlfriend Nicole Holder. The charges were later dismissed but Hardy was let go by the Panthers.

The 34-year-old then joined the Dallas Cowboys as a free agent. But that move also did not work out as he was not re-signed by the team after the end of the season.

How did Greg Hardy fare in the UFC?

In 2017, Greg Hardy transitioned into the world of MMA and started competing in amateur fights. Hardy made his professional debut at Dana White's Contender Series where he defeated Austin Lane via KO in the opening minute of the fight.

After winning his first three professional fights, Hardy made his UFC debut in January 2019. The fight did not go well for him as he lost via disqualification after landing an illegal knee on his opponent, Allen Crowder.

Hardy had a total of 10 fights in the UFC but managed to emerge victorious in only four of them. During his tenure, Hardy competed against the lies of Marcin Tybura, Alexander Volkov, Sergei Spivac and Tai Tuivasa. After suffering a three-fight skid, Hardy parted ways with the promotion.

"What a run, ya boy is far from done just got some fine tuning to do. Thank you to all my fans and haters. I appreciate you all. Mostly I appreciate my coaches, family, and the UFC for giving me the opportunity to shine bright."
