At ONE 164, Jarred Brooks will finally get his shot at the strawweight world championship after the fight was rescheduled from June. On December 3, the American will take on the champ, Joshua Pacio, on his home turf.

ONE 164 is part of a huge double bill with ONE on Prime Video 5 for the promotion’s return to Manila in the Philippines.

After all of his trash-talking, Brooks will not walk into Manila with many fans cheering for him over their hometown hero, Joshua Pacio.

The country is proud of its sporting heroes and, most notably, of one of the greatest boxers of all time, Manny Pacquiao.

In an interview with The MMA Superfan, Jarred Brooks spoke about the possibility of ‘PacMan’ being in attendance for this huge event:

“That would be really cool. I’m not a huge boxing fan, but Manny Pacquiao, he’s a legend and he’s definitely a familiar face to everybody. I would love to see Manny Pacquiao and some famous faces over there.”

In the build-up to the fight, Brooks has been more than happy to play the villain and trash-talk the dominant world champion. At ONE 164, he will have to answer for his bold predictions by proving them correct in front of a crowd that does not want to see him walk away as the new ONE strawweight world champion.

“I’ll bark back” - Jarred Brooks on his mentality toward his opponents

Since debuting in ONE Championship, Jarred Brooks has become a controversial character in the promotion. His heavy trash-talking approach is not new in combat sports, but it makes him stand out in the promotion.

Brooks makes it clear, though, that he isn’t trying to offend people and knows that his persona isn’t for everyone. To him, it’s just another part of preparing for a fight and asserting his dominance over his opponent.

In the build-up to ONE 164, ‘The Monkey God’ has shown the defending champion Joshua Pacio no respect. In an interview with MMA Sucka, Brooks spoke about his pre-fight statements:

“I appreciate all who support me even though I act like a d**k. I know my personal fans, just know that’s just part of my personality and if a wolf was in front of you barking and trying to kill you, I promise you I’ll bark back or try to display some dominance. That’s what I’m doing against my opponents.”

Jarred Brooks may talk a lot, but he has backed it up inside the Circle, going undefeated in ONE Championship and picking up three consecutive wins.

On December 3, he will face his biggest test under the ONE Championship banner when he takes on Joshua Pacio in his hometown in front of all of his fans in Manila.
